Default King Motorsports/Mugen World Challenge RSX

As always, theracesite.com has the info. first. Here is a c & p of their King Motorsports RSX article:

Sullivan, WI - King Motorsports announced today that they will campaign for the World Challenge Touring Championship with Bob Endicott at the driver's seat of their Mugen powered Acura RSX. King Motorsports is the sole authorized North American distributor for Mugen Co., Ltd. and will rely heavily on involvement from Mugen in their campaign.

"The World Challenge format allows us to showcase that the Acura RSX is a worthy successor to the Acura Integra as the premier tuner car in the country," commented Scott Zellner, owner of King Motorsports. "In addition it allows us to showcase that Mugen and King Motorsports parts are the ideal aftermarket parts to use on the car. All the parts that we use on the race car will be available for people to buy."

With the first race of the season on March 14th at Sebring International Raceway, the team is rapidly constructing their new Acura RSX . "The car is being methodically constructed from ground up here at our facility," added Zellner. "The engines and transmissions will come directly from Japan. The motors are in Japan on Mugen's dyno right now. With Mugen you never have to worry about a one lap wonder motor s. The power and reliability is always there"

Bob Endicott, a two-time professional champion (1998 PSCR Speedvision Cup, 2001 Grand Am Cup STI), SCCA National Run Offs Champion, and a SCCA Solo National Champion, will be at the wheel of the team's lead Acura RSX.

"While Endicott may not have much World Challenge experience, he knows how to win professional races," said Zellner of his lead driver. "He has sprint racing experience from his SCCA National racing, and we have full confidence in his abilities."

For King Motorsports, sprint racing is where they began racing. In 1986 King Motorsports helped introduce the Acura Integra to professional competition when they campaigned it in the IMSA International Sedan Series. Recently King Motorsports has been busy winning championships in endurance racing and amateur levels of sprint racing.

"The whole shop is very excited about this project," added Zellner. "With help from Mugen Power, American Honda Motor Co. , Moton Suspensions, H&R Springs, Red Line Oil, and Pagid Brakes, we are able to put this campaign together. We are currently in negotiations with additional partners to put a second car on the track mid-season. If that deal comes to reality, we will be able to put Kris Skavnes in a second car to support Bob.

"It will take awhile to learn about this series and these tires, but with Bob's developmental abilities and enough testing miles, I think we can overcome that pretty quickly."

The World Challenge season starts on March 14th at Sebring International Raceway. To learn more about King Motorsports or Mugen Power, visit their website: http://www.kingmotorsports.com/

Very interesting, wonder how competitive they'll be. Didn't the Realtime team use some Mugen parts supplied by King on the DC2? I'm thinking maybe Mugen ECU's. Wonder if that partnership will continue?

Look like they stole the scheme from an R/C car and JGTC!

I have a funny feeling it will be rt 1-4 mirko 5 and King 6 on the RSX scale.
I wouldn't count King out so quickly. They do know a thing or two about preparing a Honda racecar. If Mugen truly is working with King on RSX development, things could be very interesting.

Yes, RTR has used many Mugen pieces in the past on their ITRs. Jerome has recommended several Mugen pices to me personally in the past as well.

I just hope the RSXs can run with the Mazdas and Bimmers in '03.

cheers,

Don't forget the fact that King Motorsports has won Championships in every race series that they have ever competed in; with or without Mugen backing. In fact, King brought home American Honda's first ever racing championship. I would agree that they know a thing or two or even three about racing Honda's.

The colors and scheme are Mugen Power's, so the car should look similar to the JGTC prepared NSX.

Per World Challenge rules, I don't believe you are permitted to run aerodynamic pieces that are not factory, thus why they aren't using the Mugen spoiler. Damn shame.

Brian.

Reynard had won every first race they entered, now they're out of business.

Look to see the car and the driver at the 2003 Expo! Just got an email from Scott Zellner of king Motorsports verifying that is the actual car they will be bringing.

Sucks to be them.

EFZero, here is a blurb I found on the SCCA-World Challenge website regarding bodywork: "Bodywork: All Touring Cars may run spec rear wings and approved aftermarket body kits." I would guess this to mean that W.C. did not approve the Mugen aerodynamics. As for the FP equipment, those are factory options, and thus approved.

Damn racing is complicated!

I've never seen an ITR come with the front lip that Realtime used on their DC2's....so i dont think thats entirely accurate.

Why dont they use the Mugen spoiler on their car???
I was under the impression that this is a computer generated image. I suspect the actual car may vary slightly. re: the rear wing, I would think that King is trying to get SCCA approval for the Mugen wing. Any King contacts out there who can shed some light on this issue?

cheers,
