Default c clip

is it really necessary to have the c clip in the axle. where the hell is the axle gunna go if its in the hub? who needs it if the axle isnt gunna move unless my balljoint breaks. it slides in and it aint goin anywhere so it it totally necessary tio have it in cuz my friggin axle wont go in. im just curious, ill prolly end up getting a new one neways but would it be ok to drive w/ out it.

I was tempted to take out that c-clip too once when doing axles because I couldn't get the new axle in. I didn't though. I figured it was there for a reason. I don't think it's there to hold in the axle as much as it is to keep it in place. When you turn the wheel the axle would want to slide in and out causing a lot of wear. Just my .02

It can also cause horrible noises when making turns.

It can trash the splines on the shaft, and then it is no fun trying to get it in and out.

It'll mess up the female splines in the trans. You want the inner axle joint to be moving in&out like its supposed to. You don't want the splines to keep sliding all the time.
