Default Downshifting Honda automatics - safe or not?

Does anyone have any insight whether it's safe or not to downshift automatic transmissions on Honda vehicles prior to coming to a stop?

only justification i can see in downshifting an auto would be if you're carrying a heavy load uphill.....other than that, dont do it cuz you can wear out the synchros

Autos are stupid. They have absolutely no idea what you want to do, and as a result almost got me in deep trouble a couple times. Nothing like pulling into traffic from a dead stop and realizing the thing is still in overdrive....I hate those things.
