Default Car won't start

Well the one day my car just did not want to start, it started when my Dad jumped it, but after awhile of letting it sit it did not start. I figured the alternator was not charging the battery, so I changed the alternator and that did not do it. The battery is brand new also, autozone was nice enough to give me a new one. Now when I start it, I hear a clicking from the starter. I got the starter tested and it seemed to only be putting out 12 amps or so, the guy at pep boys hooked up a new one and the new one was like 40 amps but it went down then, but thats normal I think. So does it sound like my starter is the problem ? When I try to turn the car on, all I hear is a clicking from the starter. I checked all my connections and there fine. Also if my starter was bad, would my engine not even try to crank ? Well thanks for the help.

Ahh, you got your Starter tested and it put out 12 Amps?? You guys tested another one and it was like 40 amps??. I think your info is wrong or I've been taught the stuff from the start..

A Starter doesn't put out amperage, it draws amperage.. My GSR draws about 110 to 120 Amps at room temp.. Was the Starter tested with the Solenoid still on it??.. If you guys looked at the Amperage going through the Starter Solenoid's B and M connections and got 12 Amps flowing, that means that the Plunger's Disc, which connects B and M, is burnt and should be cleaned or replace the Solenoid itself..

As for that clicking noise, I say it's Starter Solenoid.. Well at least that's where it's suppose to be coming from.. If you want an in depth answer, read my post in the Erratic Starter Click Problem in ths CRX Forum..

There's only two things that I know of will cause that chatter or click.. An out of spec Hold In Coil or a poor Starter Ground..

If you read my post and have more questions about it, just let me know and I'll try and see if I can shine some light on it for you.. I'm not saying I'm right or anything, I just want to provide some (hopefully) helpful info..

Anyways, Good Luck..

Well all I know is the old starter was pretty weak compared to the new one he tested. The old starter was tested with everything on it.
