well it all started... i got my car on monday... i drove it around had fun what not (BTW its a 92 civic) and on tuesday it started fine drove it around.. had fun... so it came to wednesday.. i went to school and after school i got my oil changed.. and i was driving to a local audio place to get my cd player and subs in... when my car started to smoke.. i was like wtf.. i went back to valvoline and we poped the hood and there was green **** all over the engine and he was like its no big its jsut anitfreeze it will evaporate off... so i was like ok.. and went on my way... that night.. the car doesnt start...so im like wtf.. i dont drive it and in the morning going to school it starts... im like ok... maybe it was cold or something... and after scholl it doesnt start.. so i left oit there for 2 days cause it wouldnt start.. i went up there with a friend earlier tonight to get my subs out.. and we tried it and WALA it starts... and i drove it home and waited about 3 hrs and it still starts... so my question to all you honda heads... DO YOU KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY CAR???? any help will be greatly appriciated. thanks!

 

Why in the world was there anti-freeze all over your motor in the first place? did your radiator explode or something? When you say it didn't start, did it crank over or it didn't turn at all? These are all crucial to anyone here helping you pin point your problem. One word of advice, I wouldn't drive it around if I were you.

 

When you say you got your car Monday do you mean you just bought it? If so, I would do a regular maintenance service: fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor button. If it still doesn't want to start, I would check the battery and possibly the ignition switch.

ok.. sorry didnt know i would get flamed... well i suppose mayeb they put to much antifreeze in the radiator?? but i just got my car back from the repair shop.. it got a enw rebuilt front end... and it would do the regular start up noises... but jsut not start up... and no i havent gotten a tuen up on it... i really need too...

ur not getting flamed. lol. this is pretty light. first off, when it doesn't start, what does it sound exactly like? like u hear the starter turning like chug, chug, chug, chug...but it doesn't start? or do u hear a click click click click? since there is no check engine light (cel), it could possibly be your alternator/battery. can u turn on ur radio, lights, everything works perfectly fine? u have to be specific with what is going on.

 

it's ok if you pay for an oil change...i'm a service advisor at a honda dealership . but about your problem, need a little more info. from what you are describing, it sounds like it could be the ignitor or main relay. my guess is its the main relay, but its only a guess ad i dont have enough info and it would be kinda hard for me to look at the car unless you live on oahu . good luck

hey its koo. I used to have it done too, granted that was once, and 3 years ago. Not everyone is mechanically inclined nor have the time, or feel like crawling under a grimmy car. I would suggest doin it yourself or having a friend do it, just cuase you will save soo much money. Good luck with the fix.

 

My guess is you probably got coolant inside your distributor. Take the cap off and see if there's any moisture lurking around inside it.

 

yeah best i have to say is check your distrubter cap or check your alternater

 

that would be my best guess,it started doing it after the water got on the engine,your dist. is right there by the coolant lid.

i see nothing wrong with getting your oil changed at a place that does it all day long,most places are so competitive that it only costs about and extra $5-$10 over doing it your self,to me thats worth it because id rather not risk carring 5 quarts of oil in the back of my car to get it disposed of.plus let them get the oil running down there arm when they take that filter off.

well i went out there... all loooked ok... the antifreeze was fine.. so was the distributor non wetness... and well it started... about 3 out of 3 times... so i dont know what is wrong.

 

did your temp gauge go high at all? like overheat high? my crx had coolant all over the place, cause my thermostat busted and **** started boiling/pressurizing and thats not good....

 

no not really... but when i drove it home from the school its about.... i would say 3 miles.. would that be enough time for it to heat up??? plus i did a little traffic speeding with my friend and his camaro... anyways... it was fine.. at jsut under the middle of the temp gauge..

 

Ok sry 4 the flamin anyways go and let your car heat up on its own i mean don't press the gass pedal to heat it up or drive it this is important....
...why you ask well for one thing you wanna see if you have any coolant leaks and if you drive it the coolant will be everywhere same for reving some people have weak mounts so the motor kinda turns... heat it up till the fan comes on then you may turn it off

Now ask yourself is the motor heating up quickly chec k under the car and hood for any leakage
