Sport Compact Car this month
They finally showed all the stats and everything on that yellow R and it seems everything the car did the judges bashed it. Come on he dynoed 384 whp and only ran a 13.25 and that was on spray too. He gave all us R owners a bad name

he probally got nitto 450's with that tire and wheel package... thats why his time sucked ***. I only wonder what the point of this contest is and what makes those cars better than others? how do you judge and ultimate street car challenge?

to pit a Viper against a 1.8L Integra is kind of retarded - why bother even inviting cars with displacement less than 3.0L?
SCC is a poor magazine.
Read EVO instead - there eCOTY was the NSX Type R - even over last year's winner the 700 hp Zonda. - now that was a good test
exactly - I guess since it is an open contest - any car can come in - but they should still be classified by engine size.

And to whoever said apples and oranges, whatever. Cars are cars and if you can't compete with something just because it's RWD or has a bigger engine than you never should have stepped up to the plate to begin with. You can race any two cars in the entire world, you can compare other aspects of any two cars in the world as well. "Apples and Oranges" is an excuse that losers give.

George- who cant talk much cause he gets an issue every month, but is only interested in the technical stuff......
SCC is a poor magazine.
This is a crap statement.
What do you consider a good magazine?
imho, SCC is the best thing next to Grassroots for the non-bling performance oriented racer who still likes to talk the odd tech.
It's called the Ultimate Street Car Contest, not the "ultimate street car after we got rid of all the cars our four bangers couldn't compete with contest". You run what you brung, and if you can't hang don't whine.
It's also called, <U>Sport Compact Car</U> Magazine. How in the hell is a Viper considered "compact?" I suppose by interior volume it is indeed a compact, however it is not what I think of when I hear the phrase Sport Compact (read: glorified econoboxes).
Not that I'm complaining that the riced-out, steaming pile of a Type-R from the comparison got whupped. I am quite pleased with that. However the entire contest deserves a big, fat, "Duh!"
Absolutely retarded. SCC sucks the same sweaty nutsac all other import mags suck.

That they like cool cars?
.I have a subscription, so its not like I'm bashing the magazine.

So what?

I wouldn't consider those cars compacts either.
I think the entire contest is a stupid idea, and calling it a street car competition is particularly dumb considering that most of those cars would be a bitch to drive every day.

Why? I bet it was kind of fun to do. Some cool cars, a not so cool ITR, a day at the roadcourse, a day at the strip, drinking every night... girls.... Sounds like fun to me. <shrugs>
Even in racing there are classes. If they're looking for an "Ultimate Street Car" (something I am convinced does not exist in the first place) why bother to invite some shitty little rice-burner in the first place if they're not going to divide the field? The ITR and other low-powered (and accessible) cars don't stand a chance.
Ah, but then the core audience of SCC drives shitty little rice-burners.
Why am I even discussing this? Magazine comparisons are worthless, especially when evaluating modified cars, and doubly so when the magazine is as vacuous as SCC.
Nevermind. Forget I was here.
I liked it.
It's a unique comparison, and I liked the different categories as well.
The TypeR was...well...they even said Sparco had to come in to "help." I thought the TypeR could have been better, but no one (or thing) is perfect.

I agree, the Ultimate Street Car Challenge is a bit flawed. They need to narrow the focus a bit, maybe break it up by price range or something. Because really, hopped up supercars should annihilate hopped up sport compacts 10 times out of ten.
SCC is not a bad magazine by far though. They cover Pro Rally, they do stories on supertuner cars, and they have good tech articles from time to time. Unfortunately they feature stupid *** stunna cars, allow trashy ads from their advertisers, and have serious logical fallacies in some of their articles (Type R vs Mustang GT anyone?). Taken on the whole SCC is not bad though and maybe I'll renew my subscription when I move after college. But before SCC I will be subscribing to Grassroots, Racer, and...Racecar Engineering

Havn't seen the mag yet but some of the comparisons are ok. Last year the Type R was only a bit behind the same Supra of this years competition (on the track). It's dumb to compare these cars but at the same time I like it. What if the Type R actually beat out the Viper or Supra how cool would that be. It's that "what if" that I like about these comparisons.
EVO is hands down the best mag i've read, aside from Grassroots since it directly appeals to me more. If it werent for the $8 price tag i'd buy it every month. Last months COTY issue was awesome. How many other mags have COTY articles that span 25 pages with lots of great photography?

What a great word. This has been amusing.
