What to do to my engine...
Well first off I have a 99 Integra LS. All thats been done so far is an intake. Next is probably an Apex-i N1 exhaust and some 4-2-1 header. After that, I have no idea what to do next. I want some power gains but without spending an outrageous amount of money. Im not sure if I should go N/A or save up for a turbo. Im thinking about N/A but then if I go into that I have no idea what im getting myself into. So what do yall think I need peoples opinons. I drive the car everyday so it has to be streetlegal and okay as an everday car. Also, I want more midrange power than high end power. So....any suggestions?
Well really it all comes down to how much you have to spend. What are you looking for a car to goto the auto x or to the 1/4. Give some more info of what you are looking for.
Well, why not invest it into a good suspension set up. I think handling and driveability is jsut as important as how fast u can go in a car that is a daily driver.
pdcdragon i was thinking about that too just didnt mention it. im kinda leaning more towards turboing it right now. as of right now (this WILL more than likely change) my plans are this: an apex-i N1 exhaust, eibach prokit springs, and each time i get my paycheck (every week) maybe putting some money away for the turbo. tell me if theres anything wrong with this plan so far...i decided not to get headers b/c they will just be obsolete when i get the turbo
boost may be money but it will cost far more to get the same power all motor
if you want a good reliable dd then maybe a JRSC or a Vortech might be the route for you altho junkyard turbos can be put together for very little money and you can buy it piece by piece when you have the money

anyways, everyone, lets just ignore the guy w/ the obx exhaust and tenzo strut bars. (jeremy L, who changed his sig after i commented on that last time.) besides going with a junkyard turbo which will have to be rebuilt either way, you could 1) go ls/vtec (unrecommended, costly, high maint.) turbo( costly) or JRSC. (about 3k) actually u could probably get away w/ a turbo kit (drag 3) and hondata w/ very good tuning..run low boost...which would set you back about 4k, and you would have about 200whp..i don't know if its worth it. its up to you though.
ya right now i plan on just getting a cat back or axel back, not a full exhaust because its gonna have to be changed when i get the turbo and im pretty sure im giong to turbo it...btw...waht is JSRC?
I'd save for FI if you think you're upto the install and upkeep. The cost and work of a Vtec head & changover will not yeild enough to justify it in my opinion. Plus after you put the B16 head on you still have a bottom end with poor geometry where Vtec lives. Perhaps if you were starting from a B20 block it'd make more sense, at least then you'd have more displacement on your side. Once you spend all that time & money trying to build a poor mans GSR you could nearly have bought a B18C1. Nope IMO B18bs get FI, and B18Cs get NA lovin'.
TimoneX I agree with u 100%. LS/VTEC is a good idea but it doesnt seem to get me that much benifit for the cost of it. I really wanna go the FI route and thats why I'm holding back on getting a header and exhaust system. I already have the intake, it came free with the car (the dude we bought the car from had had it but hadnt installed it) so I have that, and if and when I sell it i'll have made money cuz i paid $0 for it! Right now I'm starting to save up for that turbo, it will take a while but I'm saving! So what exhaust goes good with FI on an LS? I've been told to get 3" piping, hints why I dont want to get an exhaust right now cuz 3" piping wouldnt be good w/o a turbo...
Depressing I know, but I'd buy nothing now. You're going to need all the parts of a turbo kit, larger injectors, Hondata, and lotsa tuning. The exhaust would make a very small difference to the performance of your car now and an exhaust worth buying will cost you a good chunk of turbo money.
N/A for LS =not applicable.
If you want vtec, LS-vtec is good if done properly. I have a B20-vtec in my integra now and its plenty fast for driving around town. If you want to stick with the LS, get a decent set of headers (JDM ITR or DC JDM 4-1 for cheap hp), don't waste your money on an expensive exhaust. Just get 2.25" mandrel bent with a muffler that you like how it looks and sounds. Me personally i run a stock muffler.
There are lots of other mods you can do, just research a bit before you make a large purchase.
yah I wasnt planning on buying a good exhaust, maybe just a muffler or something small b/c i want a good sound for now
Skip the header unless you plan on staying N/A. Save up lots of pennies for the boost management devices, hondata or something similar, new injectors, etc.
Boosted LS motors are nice, but expect to pay at LEAST 17k for a setup that's worth anything.
Why don't you consider nitrous? Get a good NX kit, Hondata S200, and spray a 125 shot and do partake is some beloved LS1 ownage????

I am going NA with mine. I have priced the two and it seems to me that either way you are spending alot of to get it tuned right...and you still have hours of dyno time that you need to tune. I would look at how far you are driving and how long your trips usually are. For me, I think it is better to go NA.
$17K how do you come up with a figure like $17K you could buy an anihilator block for $4ish and even an FMAX kit pre fab'd for $3500 AEM EMS for $1200 and tune it for $500
doesnt even come close to $17k
