Default Suspension Install

Alright, I just got a set of GC's and AGX's and am trying to install them today. I got the car up, wheels off and everything, I go to give a big tug on the first bolt and. . nothing. I'm not a huge guy or anything but I thought I'd be able to get it loosened at least. How many of you have been able to do your suspension without resorting to using an impact wrench or anything like that? Tips and recommendations would be extremely helpful since the car's still up at this time.

I did this install about 2 months ago with some Eibachs and Bilsteins and it wasn't so bad, but just follow some rules.

First: Buy some Liquid Wrench Super Lubricant w/teflon, let all of your bolts that you will be removing soak with this stuff for hours at least, you don't want to be snapping heads off of bolts

Second: Buy a spring compressor(need for coilovers?)

i used normal craftsman wrench.... it was really hard for the first bolt, but i got it off... 2nd and 4rd bolts were just un-bearable./.. so i took the bar from my floorjack, put it on the handle of the craftsman wrench and instantly created a 4 foot breaker bar.... god damn bolt came off with less effort than closing a cabinet door.

which bolts are you talking about? Be sure to use a spring compressor when replacing the springs etc.

I have a spring compressor in case I need it (borrowed). I'm trying to get the first bolt/nut combo at the lower shock fork below the brake lines and axle. I sprayed some WD40 on there a little while ago, going to let that soak in for awhile before trying again. Thanks you guys for the fast responses , more input is greatly appreciated!

Hey Hitop, where'd you pick up the Liquid Wrench and how much was it if you remember? I'm sort of stuck right now but I have a friend coming so I might be able to get some.

I don't know if PB Blaster works any better than Liquid Wrench but before I did some suspension work on my car I had read horror stories about the lower shock bolts. I sprayed PB Blaster on every bolt and luckily didn't run into any problems. Get some of this stuff, it works.

I didn't need to use any impact tools, you shouldn't either but if you have access to them they are helpful.

PB Blaster is simply awesome stuff. Spray it liberally on the bolts you wanna loosen hours, maybe even the day before you want to loosen them. This will make it MUCH easier on you.

Hell yeah! The jack bar is my ghetto breaker bar but it works great.

Thanks for all the responses everyone, got some of that PB Buster stuff and it worked great. Going to drop it about an inch and see how well the handling is. Again, thank you all.

heat the bolt with a torch for about 60 sec, make sure you dont melt any bushings while doing this

i had a tie rod that would not come off for any breaker bar in the world even if it was 100ft long, blasted it with a propane torch and poof came right off
