Default Help with tires

I have a 94 accord ex, lowered bout 2.5 inches. Im currently running 205/40 on 17 inch rims. I wanna move up one step to 205/45 due to the poor quality roads around here. I'm sure i have plenty of room under the fenders for one size up but my question is, do you guys think going from a 40 to 45 will make that much of a difference as far as saving the rims from pot holes?? And also let me know what yall are running on your accords. Pics would be nice too. Thanks...

In order to stay at stock height/size of tires, jingjing is correct.

I believe 205/45-17 is a better size... Because if stock size is 195/60-15, it gives you a 76.07 inch circumference. 205/45-17 tires would give you 76.23, which is closer than a circumference of 77.34 of the aforementioned 215/45-17 tires.

The height number is actually an aspect ratio between the width and the height. It does not translate to a specific measurement across the range of tire sizes like the width does... i.e. a 215 tire is the same width wether it is a 40 series or a 55 series. It is still 215mm across. The actual height changes in a series depending on the width.
