Default Tach fluctuates at 4g

a friend of mine just had a b16 swap done and driving from NY to MI he said it was fine till he got to OH the tach started to jump up and down
he got i towed here in MI
he says it starts up fine and idles fine but soon as he hits about 4g i acts funny
he said he thinks it is the coil
so i told him i would try and find out what else the problem might be
so i am asking any of you honda gurus what you micht think it might be
any help would be great
