I recently installed a new header (used). When i accelerate a loud chattering/clattering (hard to describe) pulsating sound comes from the engine, much like a broke down 80's model vehicle would make, but louder. It seems to only occur when the engine is cold. Once on the freeway (engine warm) it sounds fine.

One of the bolts that connect the header to the engine snapped. So im thinking due to the missing bolt there is a tiny gap between the header and engine making the gasket rattle..??? Is this possible? Or did i get a bad header?

 

That should do it....start up your car when its cold and pop your hood. try to trace where the sound is coming from. Also get that bolt fixed! good luck

 

I think you diagnosed your own problem there.

 

i wasnt sure if missing only one bolt could cause such a loud noise.

I've read about some other people having the same problem snapping that bolt, I'm guessing its the one on the far left. Try and do a seach for that and see if anything comes up or IM one of those ppl if you can find someone w/the same problem.
