Default Flames coming out of my Exhuast?

Sometimes when ever i shift really hard a small flame will shoot out the exhaust, and i was wondering is there something wrong, or is it the back pressure or bad fuel. i have a D16Z6 with intake, exhaust. If you could helpme i would appreciate it. Thanks

could be you are running really rich and your exhaust gets hot enough where it ignites the unburned fuel. or prev. owner wanted it like that and installed a kit. i dunno why tho. hot rodders have this alot.
