Accord idle problem
I have an 87 Accord LXi with 180,000 miles. When it is cold, it starts it's idle at about 2000 RPM, which is OK. When it starts to get warm, it will start to oscillate between 1500 and 2000. Once up to temperature, it stays at about 1200, which is too high. There has not been any fault codes from the ECU and this is the first time it has happened. My manual says it could be several things, any ideas?
under passenger seat is the computer. if i'm correct you just flip down a little window on that and there is a blinky light. count the blinks. each long blink is 10 and each short blink is 1. so if it blinks one long and one short that would be 11.
i'm pretty sure that's how it is on the 3rd gen cars. try a search, someone just asked that question for an 89 and it will be the same.

I am familiar with the error codes and there are no codes showing (light blinking) which makes it even more difficult to diagnose. I will check other posts for what your suggest. Thanks.
err...he beat me too it. Anyways, I agree....I'd take the idle air control valve and the fast idle valve apart and clean them real good and see if that works. After years those things get a slimy buildup on the inside and can't sense the temp real well anymore
