Sears scratched my wheels - help
I took my car to Sears to get my Kumho's installed recently. They used a stem puller that looked kind-of-like a hammer. When using the stem puller they scratched my wheels around the valvestem area. I talked to the manager at the Sears Auto Center and he wants to buff the scratches out.
What do you guys think I should do? The scratches are deep enough to feel. I worried that the finish won't be the same after they buff the scratches out. Plus will the clearcoat finish be rubbed off??

Ask him if he could buff a knuckle sandwich off of his face.
as for the original question I would definetly consult with the manager and have some sort of compensation or the like...
Eventho it should not have happened, **** happens.
ask for a discount on your recent made purchase or ask him (the manager) for a new wheel.
They have insurance but let them try what they think will work first- and then say its not good enough.

Thanx guys for the answer. I really want an new set of wheels but at the minimum a nice compensation due to the high price of OEM wheels.

Sears did that sh*t to me, it really pissed me off since I only had the wheels for like two weeks. The scratch on mine was a lot worse though, right in the middle of one of the spokes. The only thing they would do is refund the amount I paid for the installation. My brother worked there (though not in the install bay), and that couldn't even help me out. Good luck, Jake.

Why do people go to cheap/fast places to get work done?!?!? You do really get what you pay for. Take it to someone who cares about cars....local performance shops can't cost a whole lot more and they usually care about the small stuff like scratches and balancing wheels to zero. Just my 2 cents

I asked around to all of my car friends, and they all told me Sears does the best job in town and they haven't heard of anyone getting their rims scratched there.[Modified by WiggiE, 6:33 PM 1/16/2003]
next time bring them in clean too. after taking a look at those, if I were the manager, I'd have to ask "how does it look any worse?"
You should be able to get some kind of discount, just talk with them. Companies are all about "customer satisfaction" these days (or are supposed to be....after the fact).

When i took my MF-10 in to get a tire mounted.I let them know before hand if they scratched it,they Owned it.I aslo told em don't care how small the scratch was.
so basically they had the manager and two other guys there where working on it to make sure nothing happened.
Basically you gotta let em know before they do anything and be very firm about it.

You can't "buff" them out, the wheels are painted. Once the paint is gone, it is gone. NTB scratched 2 of my wheels, I calmly explained that they were either going to replace them or find themselves in court. In the end I told them I would be satisfied w/ a set of 4 that had been removed from another ITR in favor of some cheesy rims after a hundred miles or so. It was like getting 4 new wheels. Point is, they are responsible for the damage the caused unless you signed a waiver before the service began. You don't have to accept this, but unfortunately very few people understand the law. That's why lawyers are paid so much

Sorry, thought they were ITR wheels from the dirt . GSR wheels are chromed, still can't be buffed out.
They're polished not chrome.
Outside face of the wheel is polished, inside (sides of the spokes and inner lip) is painted light grey with clear coat all over. If the paint is scratched they're gonna have to be refinished.
