Good question. I was thinking about doing the same thing, and would like to know as well.

A friend of mine has an es oval with no tip on his 00 prelude, with 2.5" ss piping ran under the LCA. He has a cat, but no resonator. It could be described as loud. It really drones and resonates inside of the car, it gets pretty annoying after awhile. I suspect that if the identical setup was on a smaller motor, it would be perfect. I think the deep resonating sound is because of the fact that its on an h22.

I have and ES oval with no tip on my 92 VX with 99 B18C1. I have a DC Sports header, stock GSR cat, no resonator and 2.25" custom piping. It has a deep tone and only gets somewhat loud at WOT. Any muffler with no cat or resonator is going to be loud. I'm not sure how loud "loud as ***** is" but I'm sure it would be close

i would at least throw a resonator in there. also if you are gonna have crush bent pipe it will not be as loud as mandral bent. My friend and i had crush bent piping resonator and muffler on our h22 mine and b20 vtec his they resonate kinda loud but aren't raspy like the 1.6 liter engines tend to get like. but mandrel bent piping would make it a diffrent story at least that is my guess.

well they are kinda loud but i've heard that the dynomax oval one that looks like the ES OVAL which is same straight through concepts is quiet and gets the JOB DONE...if you want to hear the sound go to dynomax.com and they have an audio page with a 99 Si running the oval style and its quiet....OH and by the way they go for 40 bucks at the discount auto parts....just my two cents

Cheap/gets the job done/same style/quiet/

man.. we've been running the Dynomax super turbo for like 10 years.. it gets the job done and does flow well. All the hype about the ES OVAL... its pretty much the same as a dynomax. nothing special..
