Funky Smell From AC Vents?
The smell comes funk growing in your ventilation system. They grow in the water/condensation caused by using the AC. Just turn off the air and let the fan run a bit before you turn the car off to evacuate the trapped moisture.
3-5 min I guess (I really don't use my AC)
. Default mode is fresh air mode. Just make sure the recirculation switch is off...I think it's the button next to the AC.

Yea, I think there should be a HOW-TO on AC use.
Whenever you use it you should never just shut it off... AC is a natural de-humidifier, and the water has to go somewhere. Normally it goes out a drain tube under the car, but not all of it accumulates enough to actually drip out. So, there will be condensation and vapor left in the system. If you dont dry it out, then mold will certainly grow.
Let the fans blow (on FRESH) for at least 5 min.. I know its tough to remember before you get somewhere. In the wifes 98 Civic, it turns the AC on automatically if you switch it to DEFROST.. which doesnt help.

Man I agree, I never knew you had to do that for the AC/ I can't ever recall that in the owners manual of the car. I am assuming the mold will go away in time? It really smells like A#$
