Just over all? I'd agree with pretty much everyone else, Mobile 1.

Valvoline for performance.
Kendal 20w40 race.
Average protection Mobile 1.

its not about if one oil is better than another. its about how long and well the oil protects from viscosity breakdown. so technically one may be better than another. and Oh yeah I use castrol syntec 10w30 in my eg w/b18b

I run Mobil 1 5W-30 & 10W-30 Depending on what time of year. I believe in Mobil 1. If Ferrari and Porshe and Bentley only run Mobil 1, why can't my little beater run just as good. My Del Sol deserves the best!!!

well, as for one oil not outperforming another oil, thats not true. A few years back, Pennzoil did a test on conventional vs. full synthetic. they took 2 brand new GM engines, put conventional in one, and full synthetic in the other. they ran them both for 80,000 miles, changing the oil every 3000 miles, then broke them down and checked them with really expensive digital micrometers. the conventional engine had ~38% wear, average for a domestic engine w/ 80,000 on it. then they tested the engine with full synthetic. it had less than 1% wear. so this proved that full synthetic far outperforms conventional oil. also, just a little piece of information for you guys. Pennzoil and Valvoline are the USs best oil companies, they refine their own oil. Castrol buys the cheapest oil on the market and slaps their label on it. IMO i wouldnt put castrol in my engine if i was 1.5 quarts low and its all i had. All they have is advertising, their oil sucks. And valvoline does a lot of Pennzoil's R&D for them, so i go with valvoline. its really good stuff. either that or pennzoil. redline, neo, etc. also make very good products, if you can afford them. Mobil 1 is good, but conventional Mobil sucks.

 

i use mobil 1 10w-30 b/c it is the only over-the-counter (kragen, pep boys, autozone) motor oil which is a true synthetic meaning it is made from a group IV basestock. castrol syntec, valvoline synthetic, and pennzoil synthetic are made from a group III base stock (dino oil) and are refined to the point where it can be called a synthetic. also mobil one oil contains molybdenum which protects your engine parts. for more on moly go to : http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/moly.html. castrol syntec contains no moly at all whereas castrol gtx does. some peole feel that castrol gtx is a better oil than castol syntec because of this reason.

 

Mobil 1 10w-30 super-syn

 

I used to run Mobil one 5-30 full synthetic, then I put redline in and I could actually tell a difference. I know that sounds kinda ricey but Im not kiddin, it idles better and runs better top end. My 2 cents.

 

used to use mobile full synth but found castrol GTX much cheaper and just at good. oil changes regularly every 1-1.5k anyway
