Today's Budet Upgrade: ITR intake arm and box. (56k beware)
Well, I recieved my ITR intake arm, box and filter in the mail today to replace my stock B16 arm. Keep in mind that it was cheap and I really don't plan on seeing a whole lot of gain from an intake other than a few hp, so this is adequate for me.
I've been running a stock b16 intake arm with a K&N cone filter on the end, ghetto rigged to stay in place. Upon recieving the new arm I noticed the following: relatively bigger in size, more constant shape, no resonator
The K&N I had, happened to fit the ITR arm perfectly and fit inside the new box so I mounted the box as well.
Impressions: Going from a stock intake arm to a larger stock intake arm, I didn't expect a whole lot but was surprised. I think from going back to running an air box throttle response and low end power seemed to improve. VTEC is noticably louder and smoother feeling. Overall this feels much stronger than my b16 arm and K&N, otherwise I wouldn't have wasted everyones time with such a small, cheap upgrade
Here are some pics-

Both ITR and Civic intake arm are the same size at throttle body right? From what I remember, the ITR arm goes from 3" to 2.75".....kinda tapering down. Also, does the hole on the ITR airbox sitsit perfectly over the hole of the EG chassis?
so fresh and so clean.....
ill phil, you go to any texas tracks.....i wanna run your b16 hatch against my LS hatch, i want to know where i stand against b16's

Sorry was out all night, just getting around to seeing questions......
Rodrez- Yeah I have some aluminum ducting running from the fender area to the box, but its not fitting too well so something else may be in order.
DarylSp- Yeah the ITR arm tapers by the TB but I still believe it is slightly larger since the ITR TB is slightly larger. I had to tighten down the screw quite a bit more for a snug fit, but that wasnt really a problem. As far as the hole lining up... its really close but not perfect. You cant really see in the pic but the ducting is
running from the hole to the air box. I'm going to do some more rigging tomorrow to see if I can't get some better air flow.
HybridHackBatch- Yeah I run at Rivercity Raceway occasionally and hit up Temple everyonce in a while. Have you run your hatch at the track yet?
Euclid- Yeah I had to trim the legs on the air box and make my own bracket to bolt down the box. So yes, some rigging was involved. I'm still working on getting lined up perfectly over the hole. Part of the reason why its not completely straight and over the hole is due to the filter not have the same angled neck as a stock one or ITR aftermarket. I'm thinking about picking up a Comptech filter for the box so that I can have a little more room, to get the box directly over the intake hole.
I'll take some pics of the rigged mount tomorrow.

get the DC2 airbox bracket and put the box where it should be.
other that that good job

I know everyone is about sticking OEM parts on their car, but when it comes to the air intake system, wouldn't an AEM CAI or Injen CAI benefit over a stock air tube/box?

I give you props on your upgrade...

What bracket? I am noy real familiar with the DC2 but I have been trying to get the box to sit right forever with no luck.
go to a junkyard and bring a 10mm socket.

Nice work.
Just FYI though, the airbox that comes on the ITR is in no way different than that which goes on an RS/LS/GSR. The intake tubing/arm is different for the GSR, but the box is the same in every way.

Doctor Cortez- Thanks for the info on the bracket! I didn't realize it had one, i had to trim the stock air box mounts so that it would fit in the space provided. Hopefully the bracket will still work.
And as far as buying an AEM or Injen, I'm sorry but I'm not really convinced of a big enough improvement for me to spend $200 on Type R AEM. That's just my opinion.
HybridHackBatch- Awesome, I didn't realize you were that close. I'll let ya know next time we head out there. I'm still in the high 14's, haven't got but one run on the new clutch and better tires, so hopefully I can pull a mid or low 14 next time we go.

I would assume that the Comptech filter would be just like the Spoon filter. They are both made of foam. IMHO, foam flows much better than the cotton gauze that the K&N style uses. This is just my opinion, but I have used a K&N cone before the Spoon filter.
I do know that Roger Foo, when he had his hatch, was using the K&N drop in and stock EG box setup, and he switched over to the Icebox and the Comptech drop in. I wouldn't think that they would have switched unless it worked better.
