Finally got my Azenis !! Here's a question ...
Simple question guys ... How long should I expect my Azenis (205/50/15) to last on a daily-driven ITR ?? I am not your typical "heavy-foot" driver but I do run an occasional sprint on the highway.. I'd like to take these tires to the track/strip at least once before they die but I'd like to know about you guys driving them to work everyday ... Thanks !!
That's not too bad at all for these tires ... I've had them only for a couple of days and I love the racey look... not to mention the HUGE difference in performance from my old TOYO T1-S .... Thanks for the info... the thread you sent me answered all my questions ... sure appreciate it !!
Well.. the T1-S are good tires and will probably last much longer than the Azenis. I really have no regrets on these tires. On a scale of 1-10 the Azenis grip at 8 or 9 while the Toyos are about a 6 but that's expected. My only complain is on sidewall flex...the Toyos have a very pronouced flex which made me feel a little unsafe while switching lanes at high speed... The Azenis are a lot firmer at speed and you can definitely feel the car gripping which feels a lot safer. The Toyos ran me a few more bucks too.

I love the Azenis.
I am running them on my stock tires now. My friend got about 25,000 miles on his before he had to replace them.

this was probably discussed many times before...
but i found that my azenis' seemed to be "gummy" when at the limit. i've only been to one track event with my car and at the time, i was using the azenis. i haven't yet tried the stock re010's on the track yet...however, from some high speed turns, it feels like the stock potenzas are much better tires.
...other than that, the falkens have been great so far...

WOW !! 25000 out of your Azenis ?!?! That is impressive. I don't expect to get that much but I'd be very happy getting 15,000mi out of mine. In that period they'll probably see one or two trips to the drag-strip but that's about it.
I have to say that I LOVED the OEM Potenzas but they lasted me something like 9000-9500mi and replacing them at $158 (that's $632 for a set of 4 plus shipping at TireRack) a piece is just not do-able. Even with the extra cost of shipping the Azenis to Puerto Rico (my home) it is still a great deal for a truly good tire. I just paid quite a few dollars to have a set of Azenis sent to PR via UPS 2nd day (I needed the tires right away) but if you're in the continental US you can get them from http://www.redshiftmotorsports.com (talk to owner, Chris -great guy and awesome service) for $69 a piece, shipping included.

This is interesting.
It is true that if you're really pressing things, or if it's a very hot day, the Azenis will get greasy and you will lose some grip on the track.
However, this is true of a great many tyres, and I respectfully suggest that if you are melting the Azenis then it's possible that you are a better driver than you think you are, and maybe it's time to step up to an R compound.
Since you also mention that you've only been to one track event, there's also a possibility that you are not driving at your most efficient.
I have used Azenis on the track for a little while, now, and it's true that on hot days when you've really been booking around the track, they will get greasy and you just have to know that and back down a little.
It's hard to decide on the next step up.... A032R's I don't like because they look like they're lasting, but they actually get hard and dangerous. I think the next step will be Kumhos.

. but i would still like to put my potenzas on for my next event. i wanna see the difference first hand.i hope i'm describing this clearly enough...the azenis seem to be very stable up until the very limit when they just give with just enough *warning*...but they do feel gummy as i described above...
i might have to put the potenzas back on and take them for a spin. i have to admit, my approach to driving has changed a lot since attending buttonwillow. so i might have a different opinion on my potenzas since having improved (hopefully
) my driving skills. maybe the potenzas have similar characteristics?
Here's a last minute question while on this topic ... what pressure are you guys running on your tires for daily driving ??
32F/30R sound low to me but if it works for you then that's cool. What about for 205/50/15's ?? Anybody ??

Then one of my azenis got slashed at a bar one night- I luckily still had the stock tires which I had mounted the next day. A couple days later, at an auto-x, I for sure thought that the 010's were superior by the more precice feel of them. Response is nearly perfect (which, I guess, is why
picked them). Then came an HPDE. On the very first turn on the first lap... I spin taking the turn at exactly the same speed I had taken wearing the azenis. The entire day was an exercise in frustration with traction.
I'm now back on the azenis. My conclusion is that on the track, there is no comparison- azenis are far better. Auto-x is really too close to call. They feel totally different, but results are very similar- PAX rank got 1 place better in Phoenix (10 to 9) with the azenis, and Tucson stayed the same (3rd).
george, goern-R,
thanks for the detailed responses! this is the very reason i like this board so much!
there's a lot of great people here with clear responses! 'nuff feel-good-stuff
yeah, i think *greasy* is a better description of what i feel. but as far as trying yoko a032's or the kumhos...i don't have that kinda $ and i don't frequent track events very much. but yoshi has a set somewhere with the kumho's that he said he'd let me try out. i wanna *feel* what you guys who run R compounds feel.
at the track event, i would say that the azenis were EXCELLENT...the *greasy* feeling was something i had noticed. overall, they are great (again with my limited experience) tires and hold up very well.

I got my Toyo T1-S's for about $100 each, but I also knew one of the guys (Old old old friend) that gave me somewhat of a good discount on each tire...
Tell me if I'm wrong, but I think they run around 130 a piece...
