Default Could I put keyless entry on my lude?

Would it be possible to buy a Honda OE keyless entry kit and have it installed in my 97 lude? After getting rid of my 00 Si, I really miss my keyless entry.

Check to see if you have an OEM alarm first beacuse sometimes when you buy a used car the preveous owner/dealer may have lost the key fobs. Look under your dash directly above the gas pedal and see if there is a black box with a green conector and a short thick single black wire coming out of it. If you do then you have an OEM alarm. If you do then you can buy a key fob and program it to your car (fob is $60). I made this mistake with my last prelude and installed an aftermarket unknowingly. If you don't have that box then you can buy an after market or OEM alarm for the car. Most likely you will want an aftermarket because they offer more features for the money.

If you don't have an alarm on your car, then yes you can put keyless entry on your Prelude...I used to have it on mine until the alarm fucked up on me. Oh well, it came with the car when I bought it

or you can just get an aftermarket (such as a DEI Rattler 100).

Just get an aftermarket alarm, it would be the easiest thing to do, plus you get more features.

can't do remote start on a stick.

I kind of wanted to stick with Honda OE, but I may look into an aftermarket one.

I thought all 5th gens had standard keyless entry... My 2000 model has it. Maybe earlier models did not?

Sure you can. I even have mine hooked up so the clutch switch is only by-passed when remote starting, that way when someone else gets in to move it or whatever and happens to turn the key w/o pushing in the clutch it doesn't try to crank at all. Just takes a little time to get use to parking in neutral, but the built in "turbo timer" style shutdown you can do with the DEI remote starts is worth it to me

Neither 97 here has it. Stupid, because my old 98 Civic HX did, built into the radio. just needed to get the remote and program it in, and bingo, keyless!

if all youre interested in is the keyless entry and not an alarm, aftermarket keyless entry kits can usually be obtained at your local stereo/alarm shop for about 30-45 bucks. theres only about 4 wires to hook up. about as easy as it gets

When i bought my lude, it had no OE alarm and i had just keyless entry....so to answer your question....yes you can have keyless entry without an alarm. BTW, i have a 2001.
