Default Titanium retainers most reliable brand (POLL)

Recently learning alot about busted retainers... i know this could be led by bad install height, faulty clearance issues, break in, re-adjument period.. clay, cam gear settings etc...

but for a retainer to break... i'm curious. does it wear out faster and simply break or something most likely BINDS and breaks...

Springs are Eibach Dual vavle springs made by crower
specs are..

68187 Eibach H22 VTEC Dual Spring 1.160/0.870/0.665 1.400=100# 1.300=120# 1.000=200# 0.900=231# .875 .148 / .100 87093-D NA

specs on crower.com...

now this is the stiffest spring crower makes for the h22a ... i'm also going to run stage 3's for the h22a.. now i have some Titatinum retainers, they don't have drive train wear on them, but some slight nics on the edge's of them where the rocker arm assembly wasn't cleared and hit... "stage 3's have that small clearance issue same as all high lifts cams....

so some people don't like crower titanium rets.. .are there better ones .. can i use them with my current crower springs... are crowers that bad, or pretty good, if i bought a new set from crower would they have any previous problems fixed or still an ongoing issue...

my motor is a daily driver and i make alot of miles.. need something reliable but don't mind making valve train adjustment every once in a while....

input would be awesome..

motor is being fully built the last thing i need is a retainer destroying my motor... thanx....

I suggest the Ferrea retainer but make sure you get locks for that also, The valves will pull through the retainer in no time if you don't! You might also want to purchase there spring cups to aid in keeping the springs in place. If you decide to go with Ferrea they don't sell to the public but I can help you if need be.609-586-0354-- dave

yes, but one thing to consider i`m using the Top Crower Dual springs on the market (Eibach) series.. these have incredible seat pressure at high lifts... i need a retainer that can hold them, without wearing faster and can take the abuse.. mind you i will shift at 8500 and might see 9000 but that`s on a fully built bottom end, prodrive gears, crower pro-billet rods etc..

will those ferrea work with my crower springs, if so are they custom for them, or will fit, also pm me a price for the cups and the retainers....

i`m in canada so you must ship..

thanx for you imput it`s mostly appreciated..

dont`forget guys !!

H22A motor.. not ITR.....

thanx!!

-happy Tunning!

I was actually thinking about you problem last night and I was thinking your problem could be or should I say the problem we've been hearing about with the retainers could be from the mis-match of parts alot of companys will make their stuff to work just with their own product so you have to buy their hole kit, so buy buying a different retainer could change the installed height and the seat pressure, so I know take back what I say about using the ferrea although I do think it is the best one out there you shouldn't use it with your springs. But , honestly I've never seen a retainer just break and I don't think a honda has enough spring pressure to break one I think there is something else going on there, get a good machine shop perferably a regular production shop to install everything for you, and make sure you tell them it has an after market cam.

I just got a customer with a stock type-r motor, not modified.

The stock retainer broke in half, and blew up his entire motor.

With stock ECU.

I've seen this many times, 99% of the owners admit to occasionally banging against rev limiters especially during burnouts ... the steel retainers take a beating then. Ti are a lil stronger but will still wear from excess *limiter bang'n*

he`ll i know how to shift and i rarely hit the limiter.... does titanium really wear that faster or is it just the way the springs put so much presure ???
