CRX or 4dr civic? Which would be easier to get quick with?
Ok, Now I'm at that time again where I can't choose which car to build upon. The motor is a fully built turbocharged h22a powerplant.
I have a 92 civic 4dr DX and a 1990 CRX DX right now...
Can I be able to make the 4dr as light as other quick class cars? I'm more concerned about the doors being too heavy.
But other concerns is that the CRX engine bay is a really tight fit(place racing said that pretty much alot has to be cutoff at all four sides to make it fit. ).
which would be more impressive for you guys to see?

well, i know your choices are a civic 4dr and a crx but i would have to say sell both and get a 92-95 civic hb or coupe. that is your best bet. you can make the 4dr run the numbers but if you are looking for wait savings, it is easier to just start from a lighter car than a heavy one. i don't recommend cutting up a car to get a ton of weight out. depending on where you cut can altered the integrity of the chassis and that is not what you want. plus nhra and nopi are both looking at safety in 2003 and they will be cracking down on racers gutting their cars. you might be hit up with a weight penalty.

A greatly respected racer told me that teh 4dr will give me more traction than the CRX also...
but damn it's so easy to make a CRX run quick with little work.
The 4dr is still in stock form while the CRX has been gutteed and the front end chopped off already
go with the 4dr. the wheel base is the same i believe as the coupe and that should give you the advantage off the line. just don't go plasma cutter happy.

I'd go with either a coupe or a hatch. Its just so damn hard to put an H22 into an 88-91 chassis, and its so hard to find fiberglass doors for the 4 doors.

wheelbase will be better with the 4dr, which leads to more traction.
But you can always have wheeliebars.
but with the CRX, and the weight of the H22-T, that's Alot of weight on the the front. So with an artificially extended wheelbase (bars), you could have the powered wheels favored more than the Civic's, I would think.
two pennies

You have to look at whats going to help you more
*******Weight or Traction*********
Id say traction will be your best concern witht hat setup, so go with the longer wheelbased car, the 4dr

I think I'm gonna go with teh 4dr for sure this time...I'm gunning for Mike Crawford's new SRT neon 4dr
if this is going to be an all out pro fwd car then i would tell you not to worry so much about the total wieght of the car. as long as the car doesn't weigh in at some crazy number like 25 or 2600 lbs i think you will be fine. bruce with venom, their civic weighs in at like little over 2200 lbs and they still go 8's. if you can make the power then it all comes down to getting the power to the ground. that is where wheel base comes into play. even with a hatch you will find yourself spending a great deal of money on suspension to make it hook up right. venom is hitting like 1.38 sec in the 60 fts and like i said they are with a heavy car. look for the wheel base more than the weight. you can make up for the weight with a bottle on top end.

Go With 4 dr the motor fits better in 4dr than the crx. With the crx you would have to mod the wiring harn. for the inj. It just make sense to go with the 4 dr and you can make it a sleeper. at that

Good choice. I love the EF 4 door style. Youl definitely turn some heads. CRX's are played out.

sorry that was my buddie, i left my account logged in at his house.
i voted 4 the 4 door. h22turbo will give you plenty plenty of power to get it moving, and i personaly think the 4door can, does, and will look better than the CRX.as far as difficulty to put in, i wouldnt care bout that, id go through the troule to be diff. how many people put turbo h22's in there CRX? very very little. how my people fix up CRX's period. im sure more than the amount of people that fix up 4doors. so not only is it a bit easier to fit into the 4door, but its way diff than most people have ever seen. i say show them what that 4door can do!
for being diff. sleeper= drool

for the street:
weight vs longer wheel base??? space/wiring of the 92+ civic vs a pre obd1 crx........
the fastest street honda in the world is a crx.
i think you can make either car fast, its just up to you and the wallet.
for the track:
you will have the advantage with the 4 door. the longer wheel base is more usable than the crx for trying to control a 150+ mph car. it'll help put the power to the ground and will be safer to drive.

I'd say go with the longer wheelbase.
But also, think of it tihs way. The 4door doesn't really weigh ALL that much more than the CRX. A couple hundred lbs more. But think of all the extra weight you can save by trimming the stuff out of the doors. Lexan windows, gut the doors, the back seats, etc. There is a lot more room for weight savings. That being said, you will also need a lot more pipe for your roll cage. You ARE putting in a rollcage, aren't you?
