Caliper piston not going in??
I was trying to push my caliper piston in, but it won't budge. I wasn't sure if it was just my method of doing it, but it has always worked this way for me. I even took off the bleeder screw to see if it would push in more easily, but it just won't budge. What da F*** is wrong w/ it??? Anybody wanna take a stab at it?
Front or back? The rears have a slot, you turn it like a screw and it'll go in. For the fronts, it may take a lot of force. Use a c-clamp or carefully-placed bar between the bracket and piston.
This is the front. I've tried c-clamps before, doesn't work as good as this. But for some reason, the piston isn't going in. If I push it in at an angle like that, will it not go in or something??? I've always done it like that before. DAmmit dude..
Try clamping it in the center of the piston to the back of the piston and tighten. If that doesn't work release the bleeder and pump the brake and tighten. [

i would push the brakes on one or maybe two pumps, then take the brake resivour cap off and then use a big *** c clamp and make sure your way down and center of the piston and crank back in, if not take the brake line off and go get your self a rebuild kit as it then would be pretty much seized.

What would make a piston sieze like that??? Also, where could I get a rebuild kit?? Would it just be cheaper to buy another caliper??

I've never encountered any problems w/ a caliper piston not going back in.. here is what I do..
get the old brake pad and put it against the piston... then I get my 6" C-clamp and back the bolt of the C-clamp against the old brake pad.. this way the pressure thats being pressed is more even .. dunnoz might work.. this is what I've always done and never had a problem..

It's just that I've never had a problem before w/ my way. I've even tried evening it out while pushing in, but it doesn't work. I'm really starting to think that it is siezed up, but what the hell would cause that??
Is the seal area around the pistion rusty? if so then the seal is most likely worn or failed and has allowed water in etc and that is why it would seize (well one way)
Has the brakes been off the car for a long time or the car been sitting for a long time?
Also from that pick, just trying to straighen it with your clamp probably won't work. You need to somehow straighten the pistion either by applying the brake(DON"T GO NUTS) and then try the old brake pad trick, thats a oldie but goodie.

if it does not go in easily, then u might ended up buying a remanufactured one...it happens to my buddy when the seal broke and i tried putting it in...ur piston might be stuck wiht some rust in there...do u change ur fluid every year??? u supposed to prevent the moist from getting in there...
Put a piece of wood large anough to cover the piston. Take your clamp and apply pressure to the center of the piece of wood. This will distribute the force more evenly. When you push on it the way pictured you are kinda wedging the piston in the sleeve.
That is a funny picture because that is exactly how not to do it. If you reamed on the bolt, you likely scored the inside of the caliper bore. Your best bet is to disassemble it and look for damage. You might be able to sand down the damage and get it to go back in.
seems like you put a lot of work into it...i think it wouldve been at the bottom of the ocean before i decided to post it up...my first post wouldve been:
Take it easy man...
Anybody know what's the going rate for a caliper nowadays???
Take it easy man...
Look at the pic, the piston is crooked. It is probably stuck now because of it. Press down on the brakes and hopefully it will straighten out.
I RAN INTO THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY FRIENDS S14. i used the tool you were using.. and i also used a clamp tool with a long arm. i used the clamp to spin the nozzle to push in the piston. IT WORKS!
