Default Tach sticks, then moves

Got a '96 LX, the tack sits at 1500 rpm after starting and then will move as the car moves. yes it occassionally drops and sits at say 500 rpm. Does not rev freely. I suspect I have a lose wire or sending unit. Anybody else have this problem? a little help would be appreciated.

did you put aftermarket white gauges on .. if you did then the white gauges are touching the needles and preventing them from moving freely.( to solve this use double sided tape . if you dont have aftermarket gauges then you might want to take the gauge cluster out and checks all connections. i do have a spare tach for a 96 accord if you want to buy it $ 40 thats shipped
