Arright, for the longest time, I have been wondering about problems I have been having with my engine. I have a 2.5" cold air intake and a 2.25" custom catback. The problem is that I always have black speckles and black stuff all over the back of my car which I'm assuming are comming from the exhaust. There is black residue in my exhaust too. Its powdery. Also, my car eats gas faster than other civics. Also, my sparkplugs have black residue on them. Mostly around the metalic part, but the actual head of the spark plug is greyish. I don't notice any performance problems other than the gas milage. What's wrong? My car is a 1994 honda civic ex coupe 1.6L engine.

 

By the way, I don't notice any smoke or anything comming out of the exhaust. And, my car is an automatic transmission. Hope that helps.

what is running rich exactly mean. i hear the term all the time but never sure what it ment have ideas but dont wanna say them and be wrong

I had an O2 sensor go bad on me before, but I replaced it and at ok now. I just need to correct running rich. How do I do that. Plus, like that guy said, what does running rich actually mean?

yeh how do you fix it becuz i think i have the same problem on the tips of my exhuast its like a powder black dust........and i can smell fumes and the exhuast alot more then i think i should.............( 96 ex coupe)

 

o0o0o0 and i go through alot of gas ill burn a whole tank in 2 days i drive alot but still i think i should get at least 4 days or 3 days on a full tank..............

 

I have the same problems as that guy. How do you fix running rich?

 

Check your ignition timing and get a fuel pressure gauge to check your fuel pressure.

 

running rich could be 100 diffrent causes
check your ignition timing
your gonna need a timing light to do it.
also pull your spark plugs
ill be money they are totally black. (running rich)

 

yeah you are running rich...i had a bad map sensor and it ran extremely rich...i think it was the map...might have been the tps...but im pretty sure its the map sensor....but it cause my engine to run extremely rich and would smell like a gas station behind me when i was driving
