Si with aftermarket LSD

or

Type R

if you raise the revlimit, it will be the fastest.

ok no. LS' only rev to 7000 rpm's. 4th gear on a standard 205/50/15 tire w/ an SI tranny will only do 100mph at 7000. my ls turbo on 9psi trapped 105 so the Si/type R gears are already too short.

go with a gsr tranny.

So basically i should go with the ls tranny because of the longer gearing

ok no, this is the other extreme that is wrong as well. go for the best tranny for ur application. a stock motor LS turbo @ 9psi, the best tranny for that is defintly a gsr.

what about adding final gears?
to make the gearing shorter.

whats your setup DIRep?
stock LS gears?

I run a stock LS tranny but i trap at around 110 now. its still too tall but a gsr is too short if i go above 300whp w/ out upgrading the head. i take it to 7500. if i could have a perfect tranny for my car right now it would either be an LS w/ gsr final or a gsr w/ LS final. us LS guys are kinda in a different situation when it comes to trannies cause we can only rev and make power to about 7300.

Yes, I would like to know as well. I also want to know how an LS block would handle those revs.

How about an LS tranny with a JDM Type R final drive, just a thought?

i guess the ls tranny with gsr final drive will work so that i would not have to go in 5th on a 1/4 run

Look here: http://ff-squad.com/GearRatios.htm IMO I'd use Ls and use smaller wheels with smaller tires. You'll have less unsprung weight that way so your acceleration would be greater than with a Gsr and larger wheels to keep traction. Unfortunately I'm stuck with a GSR and traction problems . I want to buy a cable LS because hydrolic is just extra weight I don't really need. That and there's no room in my dinky engine bay.

i had Crower valve springs and retainers and 404 cams. The bottom end on the LS is not bad is the rocker arms. Later when i switched to my own custom grind i broke a few rocker arms but it was due to the aggresive cam lobes on the specs that I requested. I ordered those cams to get the rev range down but i did not help, hell i had a 208 duration with a .470 lift and the power band was still way too high. I had a SFP manifold with a 60-1 turbo and i just liked to rev. But i didnt like the 26 psi and the 120 shot of nitrous. Thats when the motor met a cruel end. I wouldnt let the r/s ratio fool you nor the fact that the LS head dont flow. I know several people who have had great reslts with the Ls or B20 motors including jinx who had a simle mid 13 second NA b20. Vtec is great but if you jsut dont have it you can comprimise in other ways to make power.

Default no GSR or SI..

trust me you won't like the gearing on it. I had it on my 95 LS motor in my Crx and I was only boosting 7psi. 1st gear is a bitch and very quick. Even 2nd gear. Just stick with the LS tranny because later on in the future if you plan on running low 12's, high 11's you will need to ditch the GSR tranny and go with the LS one. Unless you have Head work done to make it rev higher.

I agree, its all about the cams.

if u have the ability to rev it high of course go with the shorter gears, but for those of us like me, who go for the high boost on stock head approach, the short gears are just not a reality.

Yes LS tranny is better for turbo because the gears are longer but the other tranny's maybe stranger. I would stick with ls or maybe GSR

The trannys are the same strength. The have the identical parts except for the 2nd or 3rd gear syncro in the vtec tannys. Even the case is identical.

This is the first post about "Which tranny is better for turbo" where you guys actually know what you are talking about. Shorter gearing is not for FORCE INDUCTION. Look at all the turbo trannies from Supra's, RX-7's,etc....... TALL gears!
