whats your setup DIRep?
stock LS gears?
stock LS gears?
I agree B16A or itr trans and jsut rev it higher. All the guys here in PA know i revved my LS with a crower valvetrain to 9400 and made power all the way there.
what cams and what sized valves were u using making power to 9400?
How about an LS tranny with a JDM Type R final drive, just a thought?

Look here: http://ff-squad.com/GearRatios.htm IMO I'd use Ls and use smaller wheels with smaller tires. You'll have less unsprung weight that way so your acceleration would be greater than with a Gsr and larger wheels to keep traction. Unfortunately I'm stuck with a GSR and traction problems
. I want to buy a cable LS because hydrolic is just extra weight I don't really need. That and there's no room in my dinky engine bay.

i had Crower valve springs and retainers and 404 cams. The bottom end on the LS is not bad is the rocker arms. Later when i switched to my own custom grind i broke a few rocker arms but it was due to the aggresive cam lobes on the specs that I requested. I ordered those cams to get the rev range down but i did not help, hell i had a 208 duration with a .470 lift and the power band was still way too high. I had a SFP manifold with a 60-1 turbo and i just liked to rev. But i didnt like the 26 psi and the 120 shot of nitrous. Thats when the motor met a cruel end. I wouldnt let the r/s ratio fool you nor the fact that the LS head dont flow. I know several people who have had great reslts with the Ls or B20 motors including jinx who had a simle mid 13 second NA b20. Vtec is great but if you jsut dont have it you can comprimise in other ways to make power.
trust me you won't like the gearing on it. I had it on my 95 LS motor in my Crx and I was only boosting 7psi. 1st gear is a bitch and very quick. Even 2nd gear. Just stick with the LS tranny because later on in the future if you plan on running low 12's, high 11's you will need to ditch the GSR tranny and go with the LS one. Unless you have Head work done to make it rev higher.

if u have the ability to rev it high of course go with the shorter gears, but for those of us like me, who go for the high boost on stock head approach, the short gears are just not a reality.
The trannys are the same strength. The have the identical parts except for the 2nd or 3rd gear syncro in the vtec tannys. Even the case is identical.
