Serious dilemna picking out my new car... spec R, but dc2 OR.....?
Yup, I am all set to pick up a 01 usdm nbp itr for a very LOW price and only 30k miles on it.
But for about the same price, I could also have my pick of the following (from an importer I have been in contact with for some time in japan) - this is the excerpts from a couple emails:
> Following vehicle is available just now.
> 1999 Silvia Spec R. 6MT. 19000km. Blue color. No accident. Points 75.
> Interior A. One owner.
> AC, PS, PW, AW, SRS, ABS, low down, aftermarket muffler. Price 15900USD.
>
> 2001 Integra type-R. 6MT. White color. 14000km. No accident. Points 55.
> Interior C. One owner.
> AC, PS, PW, AW, SRS, ABS. Price17900USD.
>
> Since I have attached the photo, please look at. Thank you.
> *The price excludes the modification cost, shipping cost, and the US cost.
> As for the price of the Integra type-R, I think that it is around 16000USD -
> 20000USD. And shipping cost to the US is around 1500USD- 2500USD. And
> importing cost. Although it depends on the vehicle, I hope that it is your

> For your information, following Integras are available now.
> 1998 Integra type-R. 5000km. No accident. White color. Points 65. Interior
> C. FOB 16700USD.
> 1996 Integra type-R. 75000km. No accident. White color. Points 65. Interior
> C. FOB 9900USD.

I'll post up pics when I get a chance. Suffice it to say the expression on my face is

s15 spec R or dc2R... jdm either way.
And I *may* have a way around the street legality aspect as well.....

Get the Silvia, but only if you can fnid a bigger turbo to replace the stocker. It has VW Golf syndrome...runs out of boost as the speeds pick up.
Remember the old BM video of the dc2R bogging at the start, then out-dragging the Silvia to win the race?

Before getting anything I'd find an unbiased third party who can perform a "pre-purchase inspection" and send you digital images of every nook and cranny of the car. Then I'd make sure federalization was good to go...
Then I'd just build an S15 Silvia instead of buying one. It'll have no resale. Even if you have "help" to federalize it, you're gonna butcher all that was once so JDMlovely. Buy one that has a blown motor and then put it together and title it like a USDM model once you're finished.

If you don't get the Silvia, your new title will read: "I'm a moron for choosing an ITR over a S15"
GET THE SILVIA!!!

GET THE SILVIA!!!
As long as you have one of them before the next 6 weeks are up, I will approve. If they arrive after 6 weeks, then I will be hating too...

KenE,
Unless you're going to JPN to inspect those JDM cars, I'd opt for the USDM ITR...especially if this was the one we were talkin bout.

How are you getting the car street titled? Are you just going to be registering it as a show, demonstration, or track-only car? If you are getting it street titled make sure you seriously go over the regulations because you may buy the car and then get screwed on the paperwork and have to send it back. Even rich people trying to import Ferrari 360s (which are sold here anyway) from Europe have been screwed on the customs and end up waiting 6 months to a year for their cars. Caviat emptor.
You dealing with J's Garage?
Either way Two badazz cars!!
eric..Whom would prefer factory turbo rwd car over itr anyday!!

Yeah, I hear ya - and that's the biggest obstacle.
There are two options... if i get a jdm dc2R, I can just slap my VIN off my wrecked itr on there and get the inspector to pass it out in the country where my car is registered (no emissons either). Or, if I get the s15 then I'll need to buy a salvage shell (any year 240) and use that VIN. I know that's kinda shady...
The other option is to actually just be honest with the DMV, and register it as a "track only" or "collector" car... that way, I can put a *few* street miles on it per year - ~6k I think... legally.
Anyway, I'm still trying to get my ducks in a row with regard to the paperwork and everything.
As for the rhd comment, my buddy kengs says it takes maybe 15 minutes to get used to.
Does anyone know the specs of the s15 spec R? I mean, how does it differ from the s15, and s15 spec R Aero - performance wise? I know HICAS is an option, but this one doesn't have it - which is good. Less weight.
