how much horse power is lost when you have a hole in your exhaust pipe?
i have a hole in my exhust pipe, right above the right rear wheel. it runns along the part of the pipe that is rusted, the line of rust that i see on all civics exhaust pipes. the hole is about an inch long.
i have a 94 civic DX, automatic

u may be losing a little bit of low end power due to loss of back-pressure. but u r probably gaining power on the rest of the spectrum b/c of the less restrictive exhaust.
i'm pulling this outta my *** so someone correct me if i'm wrong.

take off your muffler and you'll pick up even more power...haha...
the back preasure id say is produced just befor the cat..after the cat. exhaust velocity speeds ups producing high end HP..anything interfering with the flow out the back reduce s the speed of exhaust casuing a loss of power..ur not going to lose much..but u do lose some

the thing is that i used to have a hole in my muffler. i used one of those quick fix things, but now i loose the cool sound it used to have, and i was wondering how much HP i lost, because i am consifering to put the hole back in there
Just tear it all off. Mine snapped right after the cat & I've been driving it like that for a month while I figure out what I want. Less back pressure that way, and it's fun to scare the old people next to you at a light. It's quiet at idle, so sneak up to them in neutral and then blip it to about 6,000. It's great for rolling up on pedestrians, heheh gets 'em everytime. Just give a look like "oops, foot slipped" but make SURE you're not in gear, they'll mess up your windshield.
