Default Relocating ECU?

Well, I would like to relocate my ecu to under my dash where it will be out of the way of peoples feet, but I was wondering if anyone had done this and if there was anything I should be sure to do to make sure i dont damage the ecu in its new position. Thanks

I don't understand how the ECU is in the way of passenger's feet. I have no problem riding in my friends 93 Cx / GSR. It's mounted on the side kickpanel....

He probably has it in the floor to remove it at night for theft protection. Putting it in the glovebox seems like a good idea if this is the case. I do the same thing with the ecu and my friend is always stepping on it.

Why not invest in an alarm or windows? Not to sound dumb, but I would be more concerned about the exterior or the entire car getting stolen over the ECU.

That's like someone with a HIGH-END stereo system removing it when exiting the vehicle

I say get an alarm and park the vehicle close to the house.....

I am just wondering 1) how is the ECU in the way 2) Why would you want to relocate it if it's in the kick-panel out of the way

Driving around with it on the floor would have to be a pain. Everytime you stop at Wal-Mart or just a store and go inside you have to disconnect and put under the seat or in the glove box?!?!??!!

They mean removing the ecu so that the car does not work, not so that it cannot be stolen.

I usually pull my whole drivetrain out and take it with me to keep away any would-be thieves.

Seriously! You can't sit here and tell me a car with an alarm is as likely to get broken into than a car w/o one

Ok, to get back ON topic I do have my ecu mountedin the stock location but with no carpet the ecu is open to kicks an putting stress on the wiring harness. Plus Ive go a friend that is 6' 6" at about 300 lbs and he kinda needs his foot space. Im also thinkin about makin some kind of cover for it.

PS Alarms do do something, beforeI got my alarm my car got stolen like 3days after I got a cd player, but since Ive had my alarm I have not had one attempt even after 2 nights stayin with my friend in the dorms at SFSU and that was recentley.

i have both my ECUs in my cars in the glove box,...they both have the OBD2 to OBD1 jumper harness so they didnt fit back behind the kick panel,..i just made a small slit on the back of the glove for the wires to sit,..and just let the ECU sit in there,..this protects it from people kicking it or something while getting in the car,..also it protects it from water,..brought in by people when they get in the car

Where I live Honda’s get stole every day almost. Alarm is honestly better. Removing ecu won’t stop a thief, if they’re stealing your car they’re gonna already know about it. Guy that stole my buddies a while back got busted and they found over 20 different ecus in his car

Get some of those stainless zip ties and tie it to your exhaust to redefine frying the ECU.

EDIT: DANG, THIS THREAD IS OLD.
