Default Domestic V.S Import

I was at the track the other day and some guy was trying to tell me that an import will never be as fast as a domestic because no matter how much horsepower u have you cant put it to the ground. he said that a 500hp civic would never be able to put that much hp to the wheels on account of the cars weight, is this guy talking outta his *** or what???

I think what he means is FWD will never be as fast as RWD. Which in that case he's pretty correct. FWD is fighting against the drive wheels and will always be a disadvantage.

are we speaking in terms of pure dragster as a TOP FUEL car.. even those guys have problems putting down power..now look at a N/A honda vechile yes they have not broken the 9's yet but there no way putting down mroe than 300hp and hitting low 10s ... the advantage of course is less traction problems due to lower hp/tq compared to a 500-600hp turbo honda

dubx your sig is some funny **** LOL. I think that most Muscle car guys feel threatened by fast imports, mostly civics. I have my own theories about that mostly dealing with racism, ***** envy, and a general lack of imagination but whatever, it's just when they start getting beligerent about it that it is just stupid. Then there are those guys that think their stock Pontiac Grand Prix are actually just the **** and well, some people are beyond help.

has the guy never heard of an m5?

its not a domestic, and pushes what is it guys? like 500 something? i dont know i forget but this guy is not something you need to worry about. there will always be these type of people. and the BEST way to get them back, is to tell them something short, brief, and that they will think about.

'you dont get out much do you'...like that guy said up there... thats a good line to tell them. because then, it doesnt sound like youre getting all defensive. it sounds like your telling him that it IS true, and you dont give a damn if he knows it or not.

oh and IM ALL BOB...did you read the post about the N/A guy who DID break nines...i tried searching the thread for you, but i think the post was an off topic one in a thread that wasnt related. he did it all N/a, full interior, street legal with registered plates, street tires, and no wheely bar....hard to believe but, we saw the car and the pic and the time slips it was pretty impressive...time was 9.9446 or something like that...

Specifically, weight transfer fights against you but that can be compensated for somewhat with an LSD and a properly set up suspension. FWD cars are at a disadvantage at the dragstrip that's a given but they kick a lot of *** on a road course. I love seeing civics and integras beating up on domestics in autocross and road racing.

lol, 100% agreed. i love watching realtime itr's trouncing the bmw's on speedvision. the bimmers are trying so hard but are always getting oversteer toward the end of the race trying to catch the leader which is usually a realtime... the realtimes always look so composed... like they could be driving even faster but they figure **** it b/c the bmws will spin if they really try to catch them anyway

between cars with the same 1/4 mile times ect, i would rather have a front wheel drive to race with, but put a properly setup itr against a properly set up m3 and the itr is gonna get handed its pink slip. power is power.

one reason i love my honda is because of them being the "underdog". its not too hard to make a gt stang or camaro go decently fast. now take a 1999 honda and beat a gt/camaro, then you know how to build a car.

Well personally I don't think you can ever beat American muscle, but that's on a drag strip only.

domestic's never bothered me..... ive smoke a couple of 'stangs, and 'vettes..... but theres some people that still believe that a V8 is way more potential than a inline-four..... but they dont see the details and facts..... if a V8 was as powerfull as a b16 or a b18c5..... the mustang 5.0 would be pumping out 500hp!!!..... sure if its built and is racing specs...... but thats it.... no other car ive seen can pull out 100hp per liter stock!!......

think about what you just said... what has more potential? a car with 100 HP/liter, or a car with 60 HP/liter? v8s have WAY more potential than 4 cylinders. there is no replacement for displacement. some say it's technology... what if you put that technology into a bigger engine? more power. some say it's boost. what if you boost a bigger engine? more power. its really simple. 2 engines built the exact same way, and the only difference is the size, the bigger engine will ALWAYS be more powerful. smaller engines don't have magical fairy dust in the cylinder walls like some people make it seem.

no it doesn't. that is a lame ricer question. all that matters in the end is how much power you have, period. not how much you have per liter.

just tell him thats why we have eclipse's(talons) and such. imports are fast off the line and will take any domestic because yes they are lighter and their launch is powerfully quick, but most domestics can catch up because they are more powerful accelerators. I still think that Imports are tough competition. Look at American Drag Racing those 10000 HP dragster are pulling 4's. hell yeah they should be for that much Hp and torque and then theirs Steph Papadakis what was his best 7 something with no even 1000 HP not the mention the turbo tundra thats pulling near 6's and will be breaking that barrier soon. WE have the potential dont let anyone fool you.

no, v8s are faster off the line. more torque and usually RWD.

ok? maybe you don't understand the HUGE difference between a 4 second quarter mile run and a 7 second one. trust me, the 4 second cars need that extra 5000 horsepower to make it that fast. what most ricers (no offence) don't understand is that it's not as easy to knock a second off a sub 10 second car than it is a 15 second car. i don't expect to see any 4 cylinders running with top fuel v8s anytime soon. the fact that the celica you speak of is using a V8 should tell you something.

WTF? Since when is 4 cylenders better than 8? A nicely built V8 will out perform a nicely built 4 banger.

Think B18C5 vs Ferrari V8 engine....
