Why is my car makin this loud poppin noise when I let off the throttle. Sounds like a fire cracker comin from my exhaust. Could my timing be off?
backfire. this is due to there being too much fuel after you let off the throttle, not all of it gets burned in the combustion chamber and it continues to burn once the cylinder is on the exhaust stroke.
consider a new O2 sensor, and reset your comp.
after a while of doing it a lot it could damage your exhaust valves and catalytic converter.

I am having this same problem myself and just realized that there are some corroded holes on both tailpipe inlets. I will also upgrade to some MSD 8.5mm wires to help burn more effeciently.
yeps.. same here.. i have a lil crack/leak developing on my bpiping that pops at about 2500rpm after i let off the throttle.. it would also pop when i had a hole in my canister..
I had the same problem on a Sir CRX i had a few years ago, but it was caused by the fact that i had a straight 2.5" pipe from the manifold back to the muffler and it farted on decelleration every time!

IT 's been doin it since I put my carsound cat on but not all the time. The cat went so I gutted the cat and now it's poppin everytime it hit's 3000 rpms during decelleration. So I should change my O2 sensor and upgrade wires and that should solve my problem?
