There was a recent autocross near Houston TX in which this happened:
http://home.att.net/~blairphoto/scca.html
And here is a thread on the Miata forums discussing the occurence:
http://www.miataforum.com/ubb/ultima...c;f=3;t=006321
Now this doesn't mean you should automatically hate Rota wheels and think their quality sucks. This just one freak occurence, but you should still probably inspect your wheels. That thread above discusses ways to inspect the wheels. I am posting this in other forums that might have many users running Rota wheels.

Not true. I haven't had a problem with my Rotas.. In fact, I've never heard of Rotas cracking or bending any more than any other rim out there.

Kinda makes you wonder if its something with the subaru's AWD or weight. Seems like none of the miata guys ever had a problem. I hevent seen any Honda/Acura owners reporting any problems either.
This just one freak occurence.....
Pictures were on here a year ago with a DC2 teg and some cashed out C8 Rota's. They did the same thing.

Not true, it's happened before and will again.

You guys are just spreading misinformation and ignorance when you post **** like" I've seen these wheels blow up and crack...etc..."
BULLSHIT.
The wheels Trey's talking about were in fact ADR Spders which are not ISO certified like Rotas are, and the dumb **** hit a curb.
I've seen broken SPOON wheels and O.E ITR wheels broken too - do those suck?
I'll read how those Rotas on that Scooby broke and then make my own call on them, but for now I can honestly say all this "Rotas suck and they've broken before" is just BULLSHIT.

Just another reason for the brand name ****** to keep whoring.

Gotta love people who spend a crap load on a wheel when they could have bought a copy of it for half the price.
I have also seen many wheels online crack, if you read the other message boards you can see Rota returned one guys wheels and let him choose wichever wheels he wanted and also paid for his auto X run that he lost. Try Calling Mugen or Spoon and asking them for a refund

rota's are made in the philipines
- on a personal note, i had slips a while back, drove through some **** w/them and never had an incident. on the contrary, a friend goes out and spends over $2000 on some exotic rims made in JAPAN (i wont say which for his sake) and bent the **** out of two within a couple months..

BTW:
Let's all sensationalize this and say that all Rotas suck.

Let's also completely rule out the possiblilty that the guy could have hit something beforehand and won't admit it either.

Thanks for then "info" Captain Obvious.
Who cares where they are made?
Hell your Nikes were made in Malaysia, Philipines, Morrocco, whereever yet you still pay shitloads for those, right?
I love morons.
****...Fowler bent up some Volk TE-37s, does that mean they suck? I have a friend that bent up some 5 zigens, do they suck? **** happens. If both wheels ARE going to eventually break/bend, which would you rather have? The $100 rota or the $350 spoon/mugen/volk?

Today we had a Subaru with Rota (brand) Attack (model) wheels shear the rim away from the hub. All five spokes showed oxidation at least 1/2 to 2/3 of the way through from the inside. I checked the other wheels and found a fine crack on the inside of two spokes on one other wheel with my thumbnail. There is ALMOST NO VISIBLE crack. The crack is masked by the powder coating. One other Rota wheel has a raised line on the rear of the spoke that is discernable by thumbnail only. I'd advise anyone using these wheels to check them for cracks on the inside of the spoke about 1.5 to 2 inches out from the hub

edit:
Before this thread gets out of hand like the other rota discussion threads, I will state my own opinion on how I feel about this topic before a huge flame gets thrown into the ring.
Through my personal experiences with rota, the original C8's were fine and durable. But over the years I have seen many rota/adr rims break in real life and not only in pictures and in forums but through self experience. I dont shoot people down because of the brand of rims they buy because thats their choice. If they feel that rotas are good for them and that it fits their price range, then that all good with me. If you can afford the brand name ones then fine. All in all, all rims get destroyed. Whether or not you spend 10 dollars or 1000 dollars. The function and purpose is all the same. But to me, I have seen people destroy a few sets of 400 dollar rims that amounts to one set of 1200 rims in the same respects. Yet I have seen people over a lengthly period of time destroy 1200 rims over and over also.
Jerry Springers Final Thought:
Buy whatever the hell you like I could really give a ****, its your money. Bang me all day and night about being a brand name *****, but ive never seen spoon/regamaster/works/mugen/volk etc.. break like what ive seen so far.
