nhra sport fwd: fenders?
ok... here is my dilemma
in one part of the rules for the tires it says:
"any size DOT rated tire or racing slick that fits within the confines of factory, OEM, unmodified wheel opening and wheelwell"
under the "body" section it says:
"lightweight body panels limited to hood, fenders, and deck lid."
considering 24.5" or 25" slicks are generally the biggest size that can fit into stock opening... would fender flares be allowed? considering they are aftermarket lightweight fenders? thus allowing a 26" slick to at least fit and if it would anyway to make it fit better and possibly use a wider tire?
any opinions?

Im guessing that falls under "modified fender opening"
I think the main reason that NHRA is doing this is to make the cars more aesthetically pleasing. They dont think that slicks hanging 3" outside the body lines look too appealing so they make a rule to keep everyone in line. Some rules I think come about to make the whole scene more professional and uniform and not necessarily for safety reasons..Any more input on this guys??
damn dude, i was thinking the same thing about my fenders, i was gonna get some body shop to custom a slight flare on it. i read it wasnt legal, so i really dont know.

I really do not know, what the big deal is, I know for a fact 25 inchers will fit no mods, 26's if you rool the inside lip, how big do you guys need? If you raise the car up they will fit fit fine, email nhra, I am sure they will tell you if the slick sticks out a inch or so it will be o.k.. I think the main idea is to not have cars comming in with cut up fenders, they dont look good, and they can cut the slick. The rules do say you can have aftermarket fenders, so if they have a slight flare I am sure they will be legal, there is a greay area, but I am sticking with stock fenders. I will die if I see a street class car with 28's on this year

I dont think they will fit under a stock or aftermarket, fender, I was joking. Most quick class cars had to modify the inner unibody frame to clear a 28. The car would probaly look like a monster truck. Jason
i dont know what u 2 are talking about... its just a simple motor with a drag kit
figured 28's might let me make it to the 11's? screw u guys if u dont believe in me!

guys with 28's, if you launch in reverse, even with a missining link , I am willing to bet the rear wheels come off the ground. If anyone wants to try this video tape it, it would be funny as ****. Jason

ok Leone, when u run anything faster than a 14.0 with a built lude then u can talk...In the mean time...u know what to do..get off of Chris' jock..
exactly fenders is the reason we are here....Tom you are my boy and my partner but you have to understand there is no need for 28"inch slicks. especially with no wheelie bars.. i mean look at what we were talkin about today with ralphy's car. he went 9.4 with 26" slicks and wheelie bars. that big of a tire isnt gonna benifit you. alos i feel as though the NHRA is gonna put a limit on tire size. i might be wrong, but hey they might just make the limit 24.5........hey you never know what they are gonna do.....
