why is my gas needle jumping all over the place?
I have a serious problem with my gas needle. sometimes it is reading that i have a full tank and sometimes it shows that i have an empty tank. it fluctuates like crazy. anyone has any similar experience? what could have cause my needle to fluctuate like this? how can i solve this problem?
when my friend had his H22 swap on his 94 accord, his gauge cluster was doing that as well.. it was because he got those gay indiglos and messed up on the wirings... so he bought a new one (well a used one) for $50 from me.
his cluster was really messed up.. buy yourself a new cluster

or you could just buy that certain gauge part and put it on your cluster (take off the old gauge first of course) then put it all back in

i was wondering if it was a honda thing, because it used to do the same thing on my last 94 accord as well, and my friend's 96 civic used to do the same thing as well.
I've never had any of my Hondas experience this. I even have wondered to myself how these guages don't budge going around turns/ accelerating/ deccelerating like I have experienced in other cars...
you have the correct answer but for the wrong reason.....
the float is broken and that will cause the needle to jump around as well usually the float is spring loaded and if the spring breaks then the float will go up and down as the gas sloshes around in the tank. the design it that way so the float will resist the constat movement of the gas while providing a somewhat accurate reading of how much fuel is in there.
usually when the resistor is broken the guage will either read correctly to a certain point and then go to E or F or it will either stay on E or F depending on if it has shorted or opened.
and no I am not Vietnamese

how could i go about fixing this? what would you estimate the cost of repair to be ? in the meantime, how many miles should i expectect per tank of gas given normal city driving, 5 spd?
