Default speedometer cable and cluster question

recently pulled my zc (crx si tranny) motor, and the speedometer cable is busted. im not sure on this but does the VSS for the newer model guage clusters go right where the gear is on the tranny? if so, would it be a better idea to just get one of those and upgrade my cluster? i had planned on doing this sometime in the future anyway, or should i just get another cable? any ideas on pricing between both ways?

All 4th gen Civic CRX in the US and Canada came with cable actuated VSS.
So you will not find a cluster that will fit your dash right in and have the electronic VSS. The only way you can do that is with a JDM cluster. That in itself is another job since it has to be rewired (piece of cake for me, I've done a bunch of times).
In addition, you have to buy an electronic VSS from a 5th gen Civic or 94+ integra and get it with the plug. the wire that into the car. Lots of steps and much more expensive than replacing the cable.

So, your best bet is to just buy another cable, instal it and go on with your life.
Hope that answers your question
