Anyone have any "how to" install new brake pads?
I have a 93 Si, and I want to change my brake pads. A shop wants to charge me $75.00 + tax for the installation. I'm just wondering how hard it will be for me to do the change? I have air tools and I can get whatever hand tools as well. I don't know about the C Clamp, but I sure as hell can charge one on my Sears credit card. Help!
very easy. Swing caliper away and install. Just get a Haynes/Helms/Chilton or whatever you can. Tell you everything you need to know.
did u even think about taking the wheel off and looking at it?
its common sense just take it apart and oput it all back together the same way it came apart..do one wheel at a time so if you mess up you have a refrence
good luck

You see, I have $75.00 for the brake pad installation. The Helms manual is $68.00 shipped. If I can do the brakes myself I can easily buy the Helms manual which would definately come in handy down the road. I don't know what to do.
what the hell? go to a local auto parts store and buy the helms manual for 10-12 bucks..68 shipped ?
thats way to much i think your trying to get a diffent manual

You're talking about a Haynes, not a Helms. Go to http://www.helminc.com. They have the manuals for $66.00, not $12.00.

unbolt the screw thats holding the caliper (i think its a 14mm but i could be wrong) then pull the caliper up, take off the old pad (match it with the new to make sure its right) then screw it back on..... thats basically it.... but if you got back disc brakes then your gonna have to do more cause of your parking brake, but its basically the same. good luck
heh your right i was thinking of a diffrent manual the 12 dollar manual is prettuy much all you need to do basic **** like this though it will save you some money too for tools or food or parts

thats a HAYNES or a CHILTON
they are like a cliff notes version of the helms.
and yes the helms is 70$ but you will use it 1000+ more times now because you have it.
well worth the money.

Thanks I truly appreciate the effort you guys put into this forum for some unknown guy from Hawaii. You guys own. The brakes look like it is an easy job to do. Doesn't look too complicated. The only part I am kinda not getting is after you take off the top or bottom bolt off the caliper, you are supposed to use a C-Clamp to hold the piston down? How do you accomplish this? How hard is it to do this?
you use the c clamp to push the piston back into it's bore. make sure that your master cylinder doesn't overflow when you do this. it's damn easy.
No **** huh? My friend wanted to charge me $45.00 for labor per hour and then $30.00 to resurface my rotors. I was like **** I can do this myself, can't I? And he was like "Yeah." So, I'm gonna do it myself. **** the bullshit. Thanks for all the help. This forum rocks.
check the thickness of the rotors too, to be on the safe side. I know the Napa by my house resurfaces rotors for 10 bucks a piece.
