Do people always have covers and tape on the front so rocks dont do as much damage?

It happens. You just have to keep your cool and remember that you need that car to get home!

I have a stupid question....
The only reason it's stupid is because it was answered a couple of posts above.
It's just an easy way to minimise the debris on the track, and an easy way to minimise any damage to your lights from sand, rocks or other debris that might be picked up and thrown by the 300-section R-compound tyres on the Porsche you're about to pass.
NASA-Virginia rules actually require taping, although it's not considered the biggest deal in the world.

I will now remember to tape up my headlights when I get out onto the track. Thankyou
