Theft Deterrent: Zeus Security System?
I was at the shop this morning getting my exhaust pipe slightly re-routed (interference w/ swaybar
) when the Manager of the place asked me if I was interested in a security system. I chuckled and returned my eyes to my book (I like Jack Higgins' novels) when he quickly said,
"I'm not talking about an alarm, I mean a security system."
Well, he had my attention so I got up and listened to what he had to say. What he showed me looked deceptively simple; essentially a relay one mounts between the battery and the starter that is controlled via a remote key fob. You press the button on the fob and the contact closes for 5 seconds to start the car. If you don't start the car within this time period the contact opens back up, and no juice goes to the starter.
What I was wondering is if anyone has any experience with this or a comparable product, and what you thought of it. If you do but don't want to post in an open forum for security reasons, I would appreciate if you could PM me.
The reason the manager asked is because he claims that the owner was cleaning out his office, and happened to find a half a dozen of these devices sitting on a back shelf, so he asked the manager if he could sell them quickly. The result is that I would be getting a seriously booty hook-up (like $300 off
) but if it's a piece of **** and ineffective I would obviously rather not waste my money.
Now of course, as we all unfortunately know all too well, if a thief really wants your car, they're gonna get it, but it would seem to me that as long as this Zeus thing were mounted in a very inconvienent location, it would be a real PITA to bypass. Anyone have any input? TIA
