help help help smog!!
i'm in a bit of a jam. well...technically i'm screwed so i'll make it brief.
i need a place in so cal that will allow someone to run for me in order to pass smog. i have a stock jdm b18c w/ test pipe and no air box [some ghetto air filter til i find something nice]. i know i won't pass and i need to smog it ASAP. i picked up the shell about 9 months ago, no motor so i didn't bother to register it under my name since i couldn't smog it. the reg is way past due and since i have to drive to get to school, i have to use my car that hasn't changed title and isn't currently registered. anyone know a place or someone who is willing to let me pass? [of course this is quite illegal...] but i'm willing to pay a lot...i'll think about state referree once i technically own my car and am able to get insurance under it.
i thought about a few options.
1. change title under my name as non-working vehicle. so at least if it gets impounded, i can take it out.
2. connect the sensor under the oil pump to a usdm ecu and get a cat [has to be jdm type r, right? i heard the us is dif size...] and someone will pass me on visual...cuz i won't pass emissions w/ what i have right now.
any ideas? thanks in advance.

Get the car in your name and get a temp. reg (the number in the window) and you will get at least a month to drive it around worry free, I drove mine like that for 3 months you can even get more than one temp reg I got two and the second time the lady gave me till the end of dec.
yeah get the car in your name, then just go smog it, even though u wont pass smog, go smog it anyways. u still go to the dmv show them that u didn't pass smog and they will give u something to put on your back window, so that u can drive the car for atleast two months which should give u enough time to get a new motor or something. so u can pass smog

No, dont spend the money on the smog check you dont need it, I didnt.
its the thing that says 12.
how many tries do u get in order to pass smog? i hear only two...or is that for state refereeing my car? i want to do that, but i need more time!!
There was a shop in my town where I took my old EG hatch I had. It didnt pass for ****! so the guy ran another car for me. I paid $140. The guy is pretty cooL, the only reason I got hooked up cause he was my dads buddy

ok guys. i changed the title in my name [yes!] and the lady there said i had to fail smog in order to get a temp reg. she gave me a few moving permits and stamped them days in advance [AAA ppl are so cool! being a member kicks ***!!] so i'm good for a few days. i had a question about smogging...again. heh. what if, i found a car that was my model and year and swapped vin n lic plates on it? the color i could say was changed....would that pass me for a couple years before i try to get it legit?
*edit - would i even pass?*

i went to the state ref. although i did not need to, i didn't pass becuase the place where i went to get my cat put on installed it in the wrong place so i failed, but that is fixed now, all i have to do is make an oppointment,
i think u should just go smog your car and try and find a cheap sohc motor before your 2 months is up, all that switching vin #'s license plates, etc, is just too much and if u get caught who knows what well happen

put your cat in and get everything up tight in the car have them run a pretest on your car to find out if it will pass or not if it doesn't they can useally find whats wrong fix that do it again. your car will pass with a new cat set your timming and your good. screw finding a new motor and swapping it back in forth. My civic with a B16a jdm passed just fine all i did was put my cat back in.
A lot of the smog places don't know that the motor is swapped. They have no idea the motor is even different. As long as there are no check engine lights and factory air intake, and box they will pass you if you pass the tail pipe test. If you want you can go to Tune Tronics on Normandie and Rosecrans and tell them that your motor will not pass smog and if they can hook you up. You will have to pay about $180.00
thanks for the advice. i think i'll check them out. my area has the "enhanced" dynometer system going [la] so i think i might have to travel a bit to take the old 2 speed idle test. my CEL doesn't go on, but i have running a jdm ecu w/ jdm wiring harness.
ok. here's the low down. and i got bad news...alllllll bad. it's a 96 ex coupe w/ 98 jdm itr. it's all jdm. the harness is wired for obd1. that is why i don't have a secondary o2 sensor and the ecu doesn't throw a code. even with a cat on, i won't pass smog unless someone runs for me. i have found a few shops that will pass me on visual, but i don't even think i'll pass the emissions b/c i'm not obd2.
