ok, im gonna try to explain it the best i can....when im driving, my fifth gear seems to pop out and go to neutral...but..it seems like it odnly does that when teh engine is cold...whe ni let it warm up for 10mins or so, it don seem to do it. Im runnin little over 200hp to the wheels w/ a stock clutch, so all my friends seem to think my clutch is giving out, blow pressure plate..etc...but they said if its the pressure plate, it would pop out in all gears, BUT im not in the gear long enough for them to pop out, only 5th..sorry if im confusing..i needh elP!!

 

Sounds like your sincro ring(s) may be going bad.Try changing fluid(85-90 Hypoi) & see if there's any improvement.If not,the sincros will need attention,i.e. replacement.

 

change the fluid. use honda MTF
if that doesnt help then you'll have to replace your 5th gear synchro

 

Broken/cracked syncro or, more likely, bent fork...

 

i have the same problem a year ago. u didn't hit anything while u were driving right? apparently i cracked a small hole in my tranny and the fluid was leaking out.

Honda MTF i just motor oil i think its 10w30 or 5w30, so dont pay $4 a quart for that ****. And like everyone says, it has to do with the 5th gear synchro.

 

Definately try to fill your tranny first, Honda MTF is what I suggest along with many others. It has things that regular oil doesn't have. I used regular oil for a while and ran into some synchro problems. The manual says that you should only use regular oil for a SHORT period of time until you can get Honda MTF.

 

how do you tell if your clutch is going? i think mine's goin, it grabs very high from the floor!

 

your synchros are f'd up....might need new tranny depending on how bad they are...oh yeah...upgrade your clutch...that thing is probably dead anyway...

RMdelsol94: mostly its your 5th gear syncro,...mine did this also,..if it grinds or anything when poping out then its definitely your syncro,..but mine popped out smooth and it still was the 5th gear syncro

simatic: if you have a stock clutch then yes your shiet is about done,...my stage 3 catches high,..but thats what clutchmaster clutches do

ok thanks WiDeBoDyEK, it is a stock clutch.i gotta get new 1, got any ideas? dont want a really high performance one, but just better than stock specifications.

 

sounds dumb but are you sure that your not pushin it in all the way??? that happen to me a couple times and i thought something was wrong with the car, but it was something wrong with me. i just didnt push it in all the way.

 

5th gear synchro and/or low on fluid

 

its not the mainshaft bearing...those arent symptoms of a failing bearing...

my mainshaft and throwout bearing were both dead...all it did, was slipp really bad, and make a whistle noise.

i know, i replaced them myself...after that, the problem was fine...never had a 'poppin out problem'...sounds like synchros to me.

 

Samething happend to me and it ended up being a cracked tranny. Hope that isn't the problem.

 

Actually, those are symtoms as well. I have dealt with that problem a few times and both times the counter shaft bearing was dead. The trans would pop out of 2nd gear. Everything else was fine, except the bearing.
