Default Sold the R :-(

I have to tell you all that I had to sell the R. As sad as I was to see her go, I won't miss the car payment. I decided to sell her because I am looking to purchase a home in 6 months and wanted to save up some extra $$. For now I am driving the Dailey driver Geo TypeR . I will probably buy a little civic and once I get into my home, look into buying a CL-S, S2000, WRX STI (if they come), Evo VII (if it comes) or just another TypeR but we will see. For now I just have the thoughts of the joy that I had with the R and she will be missed but I will be loving my new house I have to sacrifice a little in order to get a lot. I think over all it was the best choice

Must have been a very tough decision, but it sounds like you made the right one. Did she go to a good home?

It was a VERY hard decision but I ended up selling it back to the dealership with a little $$ back in my pocket.

What good would an R be without a nice garage? Good luck with your future home purchase and hope you can get another R to christen up that new house.

Evo VII won't be here. The Evo VIII is on the way though

With the money you'll end up getting back in taxes because your able to deduct the interest paid on your new house you'll be able to afford another R in no time. Really, this was the best decision you could have made. CONGRATS!

Seriously, the first year I owned my home I got back nearly 6K.

Little OT, but this is actually a wrong perception. Yes you do get money back at the end of the year. But that money is not really yours because in a long run, you are paying 100 of thousands in interest. What they say is, you save 30 cents now but end up paying $1 later, or somthing like that.

Regardless, building up your equity is always a good idea.

Even more OT: you might as well take the money you get back at the end of the year and put that towards the following year's taxes. Any way you look at it, that money is already spent.

If I put that money into next year's taxes, then that year I'd get back $12K. I realize that I'm spending money to save money, but compared to renting at the same monthly cost or more....Everyone has to have a roof over their head at night, and owning a house is a much more ecomical way to have that. Actually I'm of the firm beleive that tenting actually costs you more, it's just harder to see because the money is not all together in one lump.

While you pay interest when you buy, at least PART of what you're paying goes toward the principal and is an investment. With interest rates what they are now (I got approved for 6.25% with stated income; people with "real jobs" can get 5.5%), it is possible for me to sell my type R (and for my significant other to come up with similar money) and use our money as a down payment on a house and have the mortgage be LESS than what we are paying in rent, even including taxes and insurance. Now is a GREAT time to buy if you can come up with a down payment.

I locked in 5% on a 7 ARM 3 weeks ago. My gf and I didnt qualify for the 5 ARM which was 4%.

If I would have waited another week and a half, I would have gotten 4.5% on a 7 ARM.
5% is cool because I didnt want to risk losing the 5% if the market went back up.

Well said, I could not agree more. I've been in my house about a year now, and even though it's a bitch paying the $1500 mortgage; it's well worth it in the long run. Sure we'll pay 3x more than the initial mortgage, but that's definately not the way to look at "the big picture".

I just got my statement on how much intrest we've paid this year, it's something like $9k. I can't wait for the return, and even though I know we should put it into the house(principal), we'll most-likely use it on a hot-tub or nice TV.

unfortunately I let her go for $ 18,300. I still made $$ back in the pocket but could have probably made more if I would have waited. I needed to start saving now so I decided to go ahead and sell her. All dealerships will do a purchase back from you depending on their inventory and as we all know.... An R in great shape is always going to be wanted.

18,300 isn't really that bad.

as for the taxes, I'd put up to half of that on anything I really, really wanted and whatever's left I'd send to the bank to put against the principal. You'll pay off the house quite a bit quicker that way.

The WRX Sti is coming out, subaru already released specs, and the EVO VIII will also come out, Mitsu released it's specs as well.

Why thank you, thay is a perfect compromise. I'd really like to get the monthly payment lower with the lump sum of cash, but I don't think that's possible w/o refinancing; and we're only in about a year

Sorry for getting so OT, but I think you made the right decision.

Mike- who sometimes wishes he sold his prelude for money down. (rather than only putting down 5%-gasp!)
