Default difference in headlamp 88-89 and 90-91

what are the differences with the head lamps between the two different versions, will 88-89 work on my 90?

if not, can they be modified, if so how?

if not what is different between the two

the glass part is the same for all of the civics 88-91 but the brackets are different between 88-89 and the 90-91 to accomodate the side marker lens.

they are different. but you can swap the brackets between them and they'll work fine, I know this for sure because I personally have done it. you can get the 88-89 one for your 90, but then you'll have to use the corner lights from an 88-89 too, or else it wont work.

if you put your 90 brackets onto the 88-89 lights, it should go in without a problem, cause it works the other way around(swapping 88-89 brackets onto a 90-91 headlight)

the brackets are everything other than the headlight. not everything other than the glass. look at your headlight, there should be the glass, and a housing behind it where the bulbs go in, you have to switch that over to your 90-91 brackets. so the whole metal bracket that the headlight sits in.
lol, thats hard to explain, this make any sense to you??

and you need to switch the brackets, unless you want to change your corner lights to 88-89

k, i tried reading my own post, and it made no sense. so I went out to my garage to get a pic of the headlight and bracket. this bracket is off of a 90-91.

headlight without a bracket(my old 88 headlight)

the 90-91 bracket

you got it figured out now?? lol

well in your pictures i only see a headlight, and a black frame piece, but i think i got it figured out all i would have to do is switch the black metal frame piece

this leads me to another question... on projecter headlights do they have a removable bracket?

also.. this is all for a crx...

Going a little OT of where this thread is currently....

Will all88-91 Civic head lamps work? What I am asking is are they all interchangeable? I need to replace my 89 Rex HF's passanger side housing since the riceboy that owned it before me melted it. I see 4 door's at the junk yard all the time. Rex's and hatches on the othre hand are a dime a dozen and only last a few hours before being stripped to the bare frame out there. So will 4 door headlamps bolt in no problem? Thanks for anyinsights and help.

The black frame piece is the piece that you will have to switch over from your original headlights.

That I have no idea, I'm pretty sure that they will but not positive.

I have no idea if this will work for a CRX, this is what I did on my hatch so I really couldn't tell ya. I thought this was for a hatch, so you'll have to ask around to find out. Or I guess you could always just try. Sorry, I should have asked if it were a CRX or a hatch before I started talking, guess it just never came to my mind.

I dont know if the Civic Lights will fit the Rex, i heard they don't. I know for sure the corner lights arent interchangable between the 2. I guess the best thing you could do is try n catch a CRX before its stripped n take the lights. As for the other person asking about 88-89 fitting a 90-91, yes, all you have to do is change the bracket, i did this to mine about 4 months ago. You'll need a long extension to get to the 1 bolt thats behind the headlight though, without the extension its a bitch!

4dr 2dr and crx = all the same

88-89 vs 90-91 = latter had vents to drain moisture
