Default problem with changing exhaust anyone have this problem????

I installed my new headers and then went to do the exhaust but the end of the cat where my new exhaust is going to bolt on the bolts were all rusted and melted together, i was with my uncle who is a mechanic he said we need a torch to help get this off, has anyone else tried anything else besides this or had any problem like this. yeah those bolts are real ****** sometimes. just use the torch, or i think craftsman makes something that can be used to get stripped nuts off rusted bolts. oh, and coat them in penetrating oil (not WD-40) at least twice before trying to pry them apart.

Damn, mine came right off. You're talking about the bolts with the springs, right? I don't see the problem with using WD40. Try anything before going to the torch.

Liquid Wrench penetrant. Soak the bolts approx. every 10 min. for ~30 min. After that, they should come right off. Sometimes it's helpful to use a torch, but only after all the penetrant has soaked in or evaporated . I usually don't resort to a torch, though. If they're still stuck after the penetrant, a few taps on the wench with a hammer should be all it takes to break them free.

Good luck.

Yikes never heard of that before. I broke 2/3 of the studs that were on my cat. Yeah I had an exhaust leak from hell. The car sounded like a toned down open header sound with a whistle.

the bolts on the cat to mid pipe came off fine on mine but i snapped the bolts from b pipe to cat so i got new bolts from acura and a new header and then everything went on fine

also that bolt on the top of the flange from cat to mid pipe is a bitch to get to lying on your back especially working with a stock size flange with 2.5" piping

just get a tight fitting socker and a long breaker bar with a cheater if you need it and just snap them off and replace whatever breaks lol i always say if a man put it on then a man can take it of you just have to find an intuitive way to do so
