Is it safe to remove the exhaust piping heatshield?

Is it safe to remove the exhaust piping heatshield?
The heatshield rattles against my apex pipe so god damn much I'm sick and tired of it. I've tried to bend the heatshield out of the way but there's always a rattle. The heatshield seems to be covering the brack lines that go to the rear brakes, is it safe to remove this?
