Default All season tires?

My friend is in need of some all season tires for her car. She got looped into stock size summer tires, I think they might be FM901's???? Anyway she's complaining that with the snow here in NJ her cars is pretty much dangerous and almost undriveable. Could she go to a 205-50-15 without any problems? Sorry it's a '97 3rd gen GS....anyway can anyone recommend a good set of all season tires?

TIA

205-50 15 fits fine on stock teg rims. Don't get much snow here so I cant recommend a good winter tire but try http://www.tirerack.com/index.jsp They always have reviews of the tire to help you make a choice.

I don't recommend using 205/50-15... especially for winter. Try getting Yoko Avid T4 195/55-15.

I have 205/50/15 Falken Ziex ZE512's. So far after 3 snows they have been OK. Its not a snow tire but they do much better than the Mich. XGTv4 all around.

RedGSR why would you recommend against the 205-50-15? Are you speaking in terms of snow tires, or overall? I understand a 195-55-15 will have more pounds per square inch and for a snow tire thats great but she needs a year round overall tire.

first of all anyone driving any vehicle should never run an "all yr round" tire...why? such tires are a compromise in all aspects, theyre like a jack of all trades, they do a lot of thing but they dont do any one thing very well

all motorists who live in areas where it snows should have a set of summer high performance tires and a set of deciated purpose snow tires

the reason why a 205 would not be good is that when it comes to snow traction a wider tire will not be able to cut into the snow as easily as a narrow tire, even in the summer a 205 would sacrifice steering response, if she has a GSR with the 15 in rims i would recommend the Potenz S-03 for the summer and Kumho Izen or Dunlop Graspic DS-1, just pick up a set of steelies for the snow tires so you dont have to mount and remount when the weather changes

If youre looking for all year general purpose use, i 'd suggest going with 195/55-15. Also look for a good touring tire instead of the summer performance. This will be as 4 seasons as setup as setups get.
