Default speedo cable clip? tranny fill bolt? help asap.

i am almost done buttoning up my 89 crx si, from doing my clutch install and oilpan gasket. the only thing is since i am used to 92-95 civics, is the speedometer cable has a clip of some sort on it, but when i put in in the groove on the cable it really doesnt do anything. I couldnt really see what was goign on when i took it out so any help would be great. and another thing? how do you get to the tranny fill bolt to fill it it has almost no clearance!!

in brief:
1. how do i use the clip on the speedometer cable
2. any tricks for fillign the tranny bc of no clearance on the side?

use a tube and funnel on the fill hole. The clip goes on underneath the weatherguard and right above where the tranny meets the cable

the clip holds the speedo in place. you need to pull back the rubber boot, clip the speed cable in place, then pull the boot back over the clip to keep the water out.

how does the clip hold anything in place. I can put the clip on the cable, but it doesnt prevent me from pulling it out of the tranny. or is it just to hold the boot over the cable.?

there should be a slot where you put the "ends" of the clip into after you have put the clip around the speedo cable.

another easiar way to fill your tranni is through the speedo cable hole. i usually put in like 3- 3 1/2 quarts when changing

ok, you are putting to much in.. lol

2 qt's is about max, ya you can get in more through the speedo hole, but I think spec is like 1.85 or so.

That little clip can be confusing, if you can still pull the cable out, the clip isnt doing anything, you need to spin the end of the cable around and push down until you know it slides all the way down the speedo . Then it should clip into place.

that speedo clip is a pita! u have to push it in all the way and put the clip on. there is like a slot on the speedo cable housing that slides inside the trani. its a **** off doing it from under the car i have found

and the trani fill bolt will be dam tight.
use 2 spanners and make a sorta extension with them its hard to explain. but just reef on it.

i found the tranny fill bolt to be hella tight so i went out adn bought a 6 point box end to keep from rounding the corners off.

I wish i had a pic or drawinf of the clip in place. I looked in my manual adn it doen even show the clip! thanks for all the help guys, if you hav any more info post it up here!

Agreed the clip is a pita. Also if you screw it up once or twice the clip can easily expand too much to clip. Try pinching it closed a little and see if that helps. And if the rubber boot is old and hard to pull over the clip it's almost impossible. Try clipping it in with the boot slid way up the cable to get a good idea what is going on. Then get the damn boot in place.

um, yes that clip is a PITA (cut up my hands a little and still didnt get it on) but what i just did was stick speedo cable in and zip tie the cable in some places of its route so it wouldnt move or jump out of hole.. AND its been working for 3 months of hard offroading type driving.

I'm sure I'm not the first to do this, but I have a old windshield washer sprayer setup. Its all cleaned out and everything, I put the oil into this and just route the line into the fill hole, hook up a neg a positive wire. This way I actually get to pump it in, it goes very fast. But the little motor can only take the viscocity for about 3 fillups then you'll fry it.

Junkyard Windshield sprayer reservoir + pump w/ tubing $5
Funnel with tubing, Probably around the same.
