Important Safety Inspection Question
Ok, I need to take my '98 ITR to get safety inspected. I know that with the SRS light on it will not pass safety inspection, and the previous owner removed the airbag to install a TV. He removed the TV when I bought it so everything looks normal, but the passenger airbag is not hooked up. Here comes my genius idea.....Since the bulb for the SRS and ABS lights in the cluster are not removable from the back of the cluster, I pulled the face off the gauges and covered the SRS light with two layers of black electric tape. Now my question.....I plan on taking it in tomorrow to get inspected, will they notice that the light doesn't come on? If you look really hard or know what you are looking for I guess you could tell that the electric tape was put there, but the light is not visible any longer. Do they have a checklist for guages when the car is turned on, or should I shut up and not worry about it?
Thanks,
Matt

there is a harness that you can remove from the back of the cluster (yellow one) to make the light go out on the SRS system. I dont know about the ABS light though
Good Luck,

if you remove the wiring from the srs wire then the light will stay on.
on my car the light was removable... so now its gone
all they ask me is if my steering wheel is the same size as stock.
to which i say yes.

So pulling the yellow harness won't work, but you assume that they won't notice?

I have a '98 ITR and from the back all of the bulbs are removable except for the ABS and SRS bulbs. Do I need to go inside of the cluster to remove them, because they arent there like the other bulbs.

You might get questioned as to why when you turn the key to first "on" position that your ABS & SRS lights don't come on. 'Cause, it comes on and then goes away if the system checks clear.
So, if you're unlucky, you'll be questioned and will fail your inspection.
Oh yeah, and since you live in VA, they will probably try hard to fail you. VA and their laws are some of the most **** in the U.S. of A.
I don't know how you VA people live there.

Ahh....My car did pass inspection, my little trick worked. The only thing I got **** about was the fog lights, because they remained on with the brights, so I pulled them off quickly and got my sticker.
