"IceBox" some reassurance please
Im very **** about my car. Im getting an Ice Box soon so whoever has one please tell me you went through a puddle and never hydrolocked? I just cant see how that yellow turn signall can block the water especially in puddles?
I have one and I've been plowing through huge puddles all week, no problem. If you're really nervouse you could always take the top off the airbox for super-deep standing water.
Not a problem. Really the only way for water to get to the icebox is if you submerge the from of your car about 1.5'-2' in water. Plus, there is a hole in the bottom of the intake so the so the ability of the intake to "suck up" water is compromised. Think of a drinking straw. W/ no holes in the straw easy to attain neg pressure inside the tube and the liquid will travel up. But punch a hole in the straw then it is difficult to attain a neg. pressure because air is going to be drawn into the straw allowing for equalization w/ the outside environment. Therefore the lack of negative pressure would be much more difficult to suck up water=difficult to hydrolock.
Or I could just be over analyzing the hole at the bottom. It could be there just to drain out any water that you may get into the intake. If it makes you feel better, Just run w/ the top open like Angry Joe said.

i dont forsee any hydrolock with an icebox
although i will be doing the diy icebox
i know that it is not connected to the filter...therefore highly improbably that i will take in water!!

you guys are scare of everyting. scared to get an aem, but the only people that i know of that hydrolocked with a cai either took the lining under their car off or went through a puddle about a foot deep. come on people. drive responsibly
i used to always think teh same. 'it must be submerged to suck up water'. in theory this is true, however lately ive been reading about people who have supposedly hydrolocked, or at least stalled, or bogged, while getting just a mild splash. im very concerned about my torn off under-guard thing and will definitely cover it up somehow. i just cant afford anything like that to happen, despite logic.
i will not change to a sri as i cant stand the in-cabin sound, but perhaps just have a ram-air setup when i do close off the bottom

I'm also am skeptical about these cai systems. I've had the aem cai on my gsr for the past 4 years and not one single problem. I just moved to an area which gets more rain, and after one day of storm weather, i was basically shittin my pants while driving around. Puddles were at least a foot deep and more. I just put my stock intake back on, but now i'm just thinking about selling my aem, and start looking into an ice box since my skunk2 manifold should be coming in the mail next week. How do you guys like your ice boxes? any problems?

Ahhh the advantages of an iceman. you get your cold air intake, and if things get really wet, you can switch to short ram in about 5 minutes!

CHRIST guys just drive safe and know not to go into giant puddles. the icebox has a pop-off top for a reason. and even better, people put their stock airboxes in in the winter for a reason.
