I just wish I could do more. My hair is pretty long now, but Art has a long ways to go. I was going to look into how I might be able to spend some time at the hospitals with those children. It really does break my heart.

As i posted in The Drag Racing Thread about this topic.....

Its unbeleivable to see such a thing from two very special members of our HT community...I think this is so extrordinary. Who has the patience and demeanor to go out of their way to do this? Most people would give it a thought and then go on about their ways, These men actually went through with it. You guys are true gentleman, Simply amazing humans, and we should all be so fortunate to have you fellahs amongst us.., i cant give u guys enough of these x1000

I was going to look into how I might be able to spend some time at the hospitals with those children. It really does break my heart.
After my girlfriend died of Ewing's Sarcoma (a VERY rare form of bone cancer that only affects teenagers) in March, I started volunteering at the children's hospital where she underwent treatment. I spend most of my time tutoring kids and holding babys, but I go up to the oncology (cancer) wing every now and then to talk to kids up there. If you are interested, just call your local childrens hospital and ask for the volunteer services desk, most hospitals are DESPERATE for volunteers.

Seems like the server is down, but is what it says:
ILocks of love: California-based Hot Rod racer Mike Laskey and team manager Art Ortiz are growing their hair out and will donate it through Locks of Love to cancer patients who lose their hair as the result of chemotherapy treatment. To learn more, visit http://www.locksoflove.org/
I need to take a pic, but I have a long way to go. I havent cut my hair in 2 months, but its all going to a good cause.

Art...I hope yours grows faster then mine. I havnt cut my hair in over a year. Anyone whos interested in it though should check out the website. Its not to bad, your hair just has to be 10" in length. They even accept the hair if its dyed. They are looking for all types and textures too

My girlfriend (see my last post) was actually supposed to get a wig through this charity, which she was super excited about. She didn't ever get one though, because she decided she hated wigs (too hot here in GA and too scratchy) and cancelled her request. She swore she was gonna donate her hair once it grew back though. She liked to rock it bandanna-style, so she could coordinate with her outfit:

Man...These are reasons I'll never leave this board. Inspiring!
In 98 I was in a car accident due to a mechanic not tightening the lugnuts on my left rear tire all the way. As we were going down the highway the left rear tire came off my bronco causing us to control and rolled 3 1/2 times. The roof came down so hard it hit me in the head and caused 2 compression fractured vertebra, a fractured neck, and I also had a broken wrist and finger. However, all in all, I came out on top (no pun intended ). I now work on my own car, have an obsessive compulsive disorded regarding tightening the lugnuts , and the many people that helped me recover inspired me to get to where I am now...in nursing school. Gotta give something back
and thank the lord! (sorry for the long post-just thought I should share)

Mad props to everyone who does this. I might do it, myself. I kinda wanted to grow out my hair too... maybe now my girlfriend would actually let me (lost her mom to cancer 4 years ago), given the reason.

Before anyone takes the chop (no, not that chop), you should post some before and after pictures.

hmm this is very interesting. I might go ahead and do it, i've been growing my hair for a while now and it's at about 6 inches all around. I guess this will be a good place for it to go once i decide to butcher it all off.

Im so happy this has had a positive response. Im gonna go from one extreme to the next by growing my hair, then shaving it bald. Im glad to see that you guys will do the same thing.
