Default Wheel hop fixes...

Hi guys. I have a 94 gsr.. The wheel hop is horrible in it. Feels like the front end is going to bounce out of the car, it makes racing it virtually impossible. I have already added motor mount inserts. Does anyone know other ways to help this? I was considering the Jim fab traction bars and a full suspension bushing kit. I just want to do what ever will make the biggest difference. Please let me know what has worked for you.

Driving skill has a lot to do with it as well. But a stiffer suspension helps tremendously.

Well as far as driving skill what do you have in mind? any kind of launch about 2000 and it wheel hops. Heck I can have the clutch out and it will wheel hop when vtec kicks in. I have thought about the stiffer suspension also. I have a limited budget so what ever works best I want to do. Lsd is a little out of my price range right now.

What type of springs and shocks are you using?

I have a stock suspension right now. I am sure that my bushings are worn after seeing the motor mounts. After I replaced the motor mounts it got alot better but its still really bad. Before everytime I would shift the radio would pop out. Has anyone tried running the traction bars? They claim that will eliminate wheel hop because it controls the A arms.

dude it sounds like there is something big time worng with your car if its that bad, how much hp are you running? if youre stock and its that bad then there is something well beyond normal wear and tear...i have 225K on my bone stock suspension LS and i have to dump the clutch high to make it hop

try feathering the clutch off at the launch to reduce the hop

Well I have a stage three spec clutch.. its a four puck design. There really isn't much feathering it. If I really launch it hard it will just burn.. its when I try to launch hard without spinning that I have the most problems. I'll just have to start replacing stuff and see what works best.

LSD wont help. I have a John Brown LSD, and a UD Cluthchnet clutch, and sometimes I get wheel hop with every day launches. I hear motor mounts can help, I cant see why they would, but its worth a shot I guess. Traction bars may be what your looking for, they may be overkill to fix it, but atleast you know it will work.

What kind of tires are you running?? This could be part of it. When i first ran my dunlop sp sport 9000's (extremely grippy) I had wheel hop every launch, now that the tread had kind of worn down, its a lot easier. Also, i seem to have a lot of wheel hop when the tires aren't heated up.

i got coilovers, traction bars, motor mount inserts and all my factory susp bars it came with , i sitll have a shitload of hop on the street. on slicks im fine though .
tires do play a big role and tire presures and the rpm you launch at .

I'm running a set of 205/50/15 kumo ecsta 712s... it also did it with my old worn out 14" tires.. I already have motor mounts and they did really help alot with daily driving. I think I'm going to try the traction bars and then get an energy suspension kit for the front end. Hopefully that will help some.

Since I dropped my car on GC's with some KYB AGX's and threw on the rota 16's with kumhos, my car doesn't hop unless it's wet out, or sometimes the 1-2 shift.

Since your car is 94, I think you might want to consider replacing the motor mount as well.

Shortly I will be going turbo and looking for some speed out of it. I was not conviced the Act would hold and I really like the spec clutches. its a sprung hub design and engagement is not bad at all. For what its worth it wheel hoped with the stock clutch also.

its the tires.. I had my stock michelin xg4 on my gsr and it always has some sort of wheel hopping . But i now i have toyo proxes and the wheel hopping stopped. Also it helps if you do a little burn out before you race just to clean the tread of dirt..

My friend had this problem with his ls vtec crx. He bought this bar that conects below the radiator to the suspension. It helped out a lot.

haha thats a good one.

Actually I tend to think my tires are pretty good. They have great grip.

Does this sound better to you. Sometimes in the upper rpm in first the tires break loose and it will wheel hop. It just happens to be shortly after vtec opens.

I have the kuhmo xta 712s. I think the problem is suspension bushing related. My car came from new york and most of the rubber parts are pretty bad. I was trying to get a feel for whether or not the traction bars work well or if its best to just go with the bushings. I am building a set of bars for it shortly and if that doesn't work then I will just have to do the bushings also. I appreciate everyones help, I will be sure to post up my results to try and help anyone else who might run into problems.
